Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D) Admission is conducted by Raman Research Institute, Bangalore

Raman Research Institute (RRI), Bangalore, is inviting applications for admissions into PhD programme in astronomy, astrophysics, chemistry, light and matter physics, soft condensed matter and theoretical physics for the session 2015-16.

Ph.D Eligibility Criteria:

Interested candidates should fulfill following eligibility criteria:

=> M.Sc. in Physics/Mathematics with a minimum of 55% marks in aggregate. Or

=> Equivalent. Or

=> First class B.E./ B.Tech. in Engineering.

=> M.Sc. in Chemistry with a minimum of 55% marks in aggregate.

Application Procedure for Ph.D:

Candidates are advised to refer to official notifications /documents for detailed application procedure. IndCareer.com published details for informational purpose.

All candidates need to apply for admissions at RRI. Students can apply online through http://www.rri.res.in/phd_programme.html link. ONLINE applications are preferred. Admission to the physics based research programs will be made on the basis of performance of the candidates in

=> The Joint Entrance Screening Test 2015 (JEST 2015) on Sunday 15th February 2015. Or

=> Performance in UGC/-CSIR-NET for JRF. Or

=> With sufficiently high score in GATE or in general GRE/Advanced GRE (Physics).

Raman Research Institute, Bangalore
The Raman Research Institute was founded in 1948 by the Indian physicist and Nobel Laureate, Sir C V Raman, to continue his studies and basic research after he retired from the Indian Institute of Science. Sir C V Raman served as its director carrying on his personal research until his demise in 1970. It was funded personally by him and with donations from private sources. In December 1934, the Government of Mysore gifted a plot of land in Bangalore to Professor Raman for the creation of a research institute. In the same year, the Indian Academy of Sciences was founded by Prof. Raman.
