The Indian Institute of Engineering Science and Technology, Shibpur, commonly abbreviated as IIEST Shibpur, is a public university situated in Shibpur, Howrah, West Bengal. Established in 1856, it holds recognition as an Institute of National Importance under the Ministry of Human Resource Development by the Government of India. Governed by the Council of National Institutes of Technology, Science Education and Research (NITSER), it stands as the fourth oldest engineering institute in India.

MBA Program at SOMS

The MBA program at SOMS is structured to provide a balanced blend of theoretical and practical learning experiences. The initial two semesters focus on laying the groundwork by covering diverse aspects of the management field. Subsequently, the following two semesters are dedicated to imparting specialized domain knowledge based on the students’ chosen areas of specialization. Various teaching methodologies such as case studies, simulation games, group discussions, seminars, scenario building, and project work are employed to ensure an engaging learning process. Students are encouraged to analyze, innovate, and equip themselves to tackle the professional challenges within the industry.

Specializations

  • The four specializations currently offered in SOMS for MBA course are:
  • Marketing Management;
  • Financial Management;
  • Human Resource Management and
  • Operations Management; with the option of different Major-Minor combinations.

Eligibility Criteria

Candidates eligible to apply for the MBA Program must hold a Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, Science, Humanities, Arts, Commerce, or Business Administration with a minimum of 60% marks (CGPA = 6.5 on a 10-point scale or equivalent) for UR/OBC (NCL)/EWS candidates and 55% marks (CGPA = 6.0 on a 10-point scale) for SC/ST/PWD candidates in the Honours/Major subject. Additionally, they must possess a valid MAT/CMAT/CAT/XAT/GMAT score.

Students in their final year of graduation examination (who meet the eligibility criteria mentioned above) may also apply. However, if selected, they will be provisionally admitted, and their admission will be subject to cancellation if they fail to produce the results of their final examinations satisfying the eligibility criteria of the course by September 30, 2024 (subject to change due to the pandemic situation).

Application fee

  • For UR/OBC(NCL)/EWS : Rs.1500/‐
  • For SC/ST/PWD candidates : Rs.1000/‐
  • Mode of Payment: Through online payment gateway only

Selection Process

The selection process for this year will consist of a two-tier process outlined below:

  1. Eligible applicants will be shortlisted based on their academic records. These shortlisted applicants will then be called for an online interview.
  2. The weights assigned to the different components of the two-tier selection process are as follows:
    • Academic Performance (Starting from class 10th onwards) (50%)
    • Performance in the Interview (50%)

These weights indicate the respective percentages within braces.
