AFCAT stands for Air Force Common Admission Test. This test is conducted by the Indian Air Force for selection of officers in all branches of the IAF (except medical and dental) viz. Flying Branch (Short Service Commission only), Technical Branch (Permanent Commission and Short Service Commission) and Ground Duty Branch (Permanent Commission and Short Service Commission). AFCAT is conducted twice a year (in the month of February and August). The advertisement for the same is published in the months of December and June respectively.

Eligibility Criteria

Interested candidates should fulfill following eligibility criteria:
- Age Limit: 20 to 24 years as on 01st January 2020 (born between 02nd January 1996 to 01st January 2000) both dates inclusive

- Graduates (minimum 3 years degree course) in any discipline from a recognized university who have attained minimum 60% marks in aggregate in all papers put together and have passed Maths and Physics at 10+2 level or B.E/B.Tech degree (4 year course) from a recognized university with minimum 60% marks in aggregate in all papers put together.

- Height and Weight: Minimum height: 162.5 cms with correlated weight; Leg Length: Min - 99 cms. Max - 120 cms. Thigh Length: Max - 64 cms. Sitting Height: Min - 81.5 Cms. Max - 96 cms

- Aeronautical Engineer (Electronics) AE (L): Candidates applying for AE (L) branch would be eligible if they have undergone a minimum of four year degree qualification from a recognized university or cleared Sections A and B examination of Associate membership examination of the institute of electronics and telecommunication engineers by actual studies

- All candidates applying for AE (L) branch should have scored a minimum of 60% marks in aggregate in all papers put together

1) Flying Branch ( 202/17F/SSC/MW Courses)
Age: 20 to 24 years as on 01st July, 2018 (born between 02nd Jul 1994 to 01st Jul 1998) both dates inclusive.
Upper age limit for candidates holding valid and current Commercial Pilot Licence issued by DGCA (Indian) is relaxable upto 26 years (born between 02nd 1992 to 01st July, 1998) both dates inclusive

- Educational Qualifications: (i) Flying Branch. Candidates should have mandatorily passed with a minimum of
50% marks each in Maths and Physics at 10+2 level and
(a) Graduation with minimum three years degree course in any discipline from a
recognized University with a minimum of 60% marks or equivalent.
OR
(b) BE/B Tech degree (Four years course) from a recognised University with a
minimum of 60% marks or equivalent.
OR
(c) Candidates who have cleared Section A & B examination of Associate
Membership of Institution of Engineers (India) or Aeronautical Society of India
from a recognised University with a minimum of 60% marks or equivalent.
Educational Qualifications
1: Aeronautical Engineer (Electronics) AE (L): Candidates applying for AE (L) branch would be eligible if they have undergone a minimum of four year degree qualification from a recognized university or cleared Sections A and B examination of Associate membership examination of the institute of electronics and telecommunication engineers by actual studies

All candidates applying for AE (L) branch should have scored a minimum of 60% marks in aggregate in all papers put togethe Aeronautical Engineer (Mechanical) AE (M): Candidates applying for AE (M) branch would be eligible if they have undergone a minimum of four year degree qualification from a recognized university or cleared Section A and B examination of Associate Membership of Institution of Engineers (India) or Aeronautical Society of India by actual studies All candidates applying for AE (M) branch should have scored a minimum of 60% marks in aggregate in all papers put together

3) Ground Duty Branch Courses
Age: (As on 01st July 2022) 20 to 26 years (age limit); 02nd July 1991 to 01st July 1997; Born between (both dates inclusive)

Administration and Logistics: Graduate Degree (Minimum three years degree course) in any discipline with a minimum of 60% marks in aggregate of all papers put together or a Pass Graduate Degree / equivalent Diploma in any discipline with a minimum of 50% marks in aggregate of all papers
Accounts: Graduate Degree in Commerce (B.Com) (Minimum three year degree course) with a minimum of 60% marks in aggregate of all papers put together or Post Graduate Degree in Commerce (M.Com) / CA/ICWA with a minimum of 50% marks in aggregate of all papers put together

Education: Post Graduate Degree in any discipline with a minimum of 50% marks in aggregate of all papers put together

Candidates registering for AFCAT examination fee Rs.250/-

How to Apply

To apply click on Candidates Login in the career website of IAF.

Candidates are advised to read the notification for AFCAT 02/2022 and the detailed guidelines for filling up online application as given in the website.

While filling online application, it is advisable to keep the relevant documents readily available, as details are to be filled as per matriculation and other educational certificates. Please save your recent colour passport size photograph (size 10 to 250 kb) in the computer for attaching to your online application form.

Please note that utmost care needs to be taken while filing up the online application. In case any information is found to be incorrect then the candidates is likely to be cancelled at any stage of the selection process

Exam Pattern

Air Force Common Admission Test (AFCAT) entrance test will be of two hours duration and will contain multiple choice questions on

  • Verbal Ability
  • Numerical Ability
  • Reasoning
  • General Awareness And
  • Military Aptitude

Total No. of Questions : 100

Each Question is of three marks.

Penalty For Wrong Answers :

There will be a penalty for wrong answers marked in the Objective Tests. For each question for which a wrong answer has been given by the candidate, One mark will be deducted for every wrong answer. If a question is left blank, i.e. no answer is marked by the candidate, there will be no penalty for that question.

Syllabus

General Awareness : History, Sports, Geography, Environment, Civics, Basic Science, Defence, Art, Culture, Current Affairs, Politics etc.

Verbal Ability in English : Comprehension, Error Detection, Sentence Completion, Synonyms, Antonyms and Testing of Vocabulary.

Numerical Ability : Decimal Fraction, Simplification, Average, Profit & loss, Percentage, Ratio & Proportion and Simple interest.

Reasoning and Military Aptitude Test : Verbal Skills and Spatial Ability

Admit Card / Hall Ticket

The candidate should verify all the information in the admit card. If any issue is found, then get it corrected with the concerned authority.

The candidates are required to carry the admit card to the examination hall. Without it, you will not be allowed to enter the examination hall. It is also very important to document for the further admission processes.

Cutoff

The cut off score depends on difficulty level of exam, availability of seats, number of applicants, etc. Based on the cut-off score examination authority prepares the merit list and candidates are called for counselling.

Results

The candidates are required to enter their respective AFCAT 2022 Roll Number for checking their result and downloading of their scorecard. The result will furnish the rank secured by the candidates. Based on the result of AFCAT and the cutoff screening, eligible candidates would be selected for the next round of selection process. The selected candidates would be enlisted in a merit list and will be called for counselling cum allotment on the basis of appearance in the list.

Candidates who are qualified in Air Force Common Admission Test will be called or the counselling process of AFCAT 2022.
