Application invites for Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D) Admission 2014 at The Institute of Life Sciences (ILS), Bhubaneswar.

Institute of Life Sciences (ILS), Bhubaneswar, an autonomous Institute of the Department of Biotechnology,
Ministry of Science & Technology, Government of India engaged in advanced research invites applications from
Indian nationals for the Ph.D. programme in the following areas,
1. Environmental biotechnology and crop quality improvement-Dr. B. P. Shaw
2. T cell AICD, auto immunity, allergic and immuno pathologies-Dr. S. Devadas
3. Leukemia research and stem cell biology- Dr. S. Chakraborty
4. Bacterial cell division as a target to develop new antibiotics-Dr. T. K. Beuria
5. Drug design and discovery, Bioinformatics- Dr. A. Dixit
6. Vascular biology and tumour angiogenesis- Dr. R. K. Swain
7. Vascular Immunology: Inflammation and cancer- Dr. V. Rai
8. Immuno-genomics and systems biology- Dr. S. K. Raghav

Essential Qualification:

(a) Candidates should have passed their M.Sc. (any branch of science)/M. Tech/M. Pharm/M.V.Sc. or
equivalent qualification with minimum 60% marks (or equivalent grade point).

(b) Candidates should have qualified in CSIR/UGC-JRF or CSIR/UGC-lectureship or ICMR-JRF or DBT category I/II or DST-INSPIRE or DBT-BINC or GATE (40% or above). They should have qualified in any one of these examinations not earlier than Dec, 2013. If original certificate is not available provide the original admit card and a photocopy of the particular result page where your roll number is mentioned.
Candidates, who were interviewed for the Ph.D. programme in the last two rounds (March, 2014 and July, 2014) are not eligible to apply

The upper age limit of the candidate should be below 28 years, as of 31st Oct, 2014. Age relaxation will be given for five years in case of candidates belonging to SC/ST/women/PH and three years in case of OBC (as approved by Govt. of India) candidates.

If selected in the final interview, candidate having a national fellowship need to activate the fellowship as per the norms of the agency. Institute of Life Sciences will provide an equivalent fellowship to all other selected candidates not having the national fellowship. Depending on the vacancy the Ph.D. students will be provided hostel facility.

Interview will be conducted in two tiers/rounds. Candidates have to come to the Institute for two consecutive days only.

To and fro bus/rail fare by the shortest route limited to second sleeper class will be paid to all the candidates selected for the 2nd round of interview.

How to Apply:

Interested and eligible candidates may fill-up the prescribed application form as available in ILS website (www.ils.res.in). Duly filled-up application along with self-attested copies of all relevant certificates and demand draft should be send to the Director, Institute of Life Sciences, Nalco Square, Bhubaneswar-751023. All application should reach the Institute on or before the last date. Applications received after the last date will not be accepted. The envelope should be superscribed with “Application for Ph.D. Programme”. Short-listed candidates selected for the interview will be published in the Institute website (www.ils.res.in).

Application Fees

Applicants except SC/ST candidates are required to send a non-refundable D.D. for Rs.500/- in favour of “Director, Institute of Life Sciences, Bhubaneswar” payable at Bhubaneswar along with duly filled in application form by the date mentioned below. Director, ILS reserves the right to withdraw the procedure without assigning any reasons thereof.

Important Dates

* Last date of receiving applications: 22nd October, 2014.

* Date of display of short-listed candidates and instructions in the Institute website: 29th October, 2014.

* Date of interview: The interview will start from 13th November, 2014 and a two tier interview process will
be followed. Candidates have to come to the Institute for two consecutive days only

Institute of Life Sciences (ILS) was established in the year 1989 as an autonomous institute under the administrative control of Govt. of Odisha. In 2002, it was taken over by the Department of Biotechnology, Govt. of India. The Prime Minister of India Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee dedicated the institute to the nation in July 2003.
