The Indian Institute of Engineering Science and Technology (IIEST) Shibpur is pleased to announce the PhD Program Admission for the year 2023 (December Cycle). Interested candidates are invited to apply now.

The Indian Institute of Engineering Science and Technology (IIEST) Shibpur is accepting applications for admission to the PhD Program in various fields, including Engineering, Technology, Science, Architecture, Town & Regional Planning, Humanities, and Social Sciences for the academic session 2023-24 (December Cycle). IIEST Shibpur is recognized as an Institute of National Importance and boasts fifteen departments covering Engineering, Architecture, Science, and Humanities & Social Science disciplines.

IIEST Shibpur PhD Admission

All academic units, including Departments, Schools, and Centres, offer PhD programs, and admission is based on a common admission test followed by a technical interview at the respective units. Admissions to PhD programs in different departments, schools, and centers occur twice a year.

PhD Disciplines:

The PhD Program is available in the following departments: Aerospace & Applied Mechanics, Architecture, Chemistry, Civil Engineering, Computer Science & Technology, Electrical Engineering, Electronics & Telecommunication Engineering, Human Resource Management, Humanities and Social Sciences, IT, Mathematics, Mechanical Engineering, Metallurgy & Materials Engineering, Mining Engineering, and Physics. Schools/Centres Offering PhD Programs: Community Science & Technology, Management Sciences, Material Science, Mechatronics and Robotics, Purabi Das School of Information Technology, Safety and Occupational Hazards, VLSI, Centre for Green Energy and Sensor Systems, Centre for Healthcare Science and Technology.

Admission Categories:

  1. Regular Candidates with Institute fellowship
  2. Candidates with Individual Fellowship (CSIR–NET JRF/ UGC–NET JRF/ ICMR/ DST INSPIRE, etc.)

Eligibility Criteria:

The Ph.D. program is open to candidates of any nationality who meet the following qualifications: Candidates holding a postgraduate degree, such as M.Tech, M.E., M.Sc.(Engg.), M.Arch, M.U.R.P, M.Plan, M.T.R.P, M.Sc, M.A, M.Phil, or an equivalent degree in the relevant field from a recognized University/Institute with a minimum of 60% marks or a 6.5 CGPA on a ten-point scale (from class X to the qualifying degree) are eligible to apply for admission to the relevant departments. To be eligible for an Institute Fellowship, candidates must have completed a Master’s program in Engineering/Technology/Architecture with a GATE fellowship or have qualified GATE/NET for Science/Humanities/Management disciplines.

Age Limit:

The maximum age limit for Institute Fellowship Category is 30 years as of December 31, 2023. Relaxation: A relaxation of up to 5 years is applicable for SC/ST/Persons with Disability (PwD) and female applicants, making the maximum age limit 35 years as of December 31, 2023.

Application Process:

Applicants must apply online only through the official website www.iiests.ac.in. Follow these steps to complete the online application:

  • Step-I: Register with your Email ID and log in to the online submission system at www.iiests.ac.in. Fill out the online application form with the required data and upload the necessary documents, along with your digital photograph and signature.
  • Step-II: Make the application fee payment online.
  • Step-III: Take a printout of your submitted application.

Application Fee:

  • For OC/OBC(NCL)/EWS Candidates: Rs. 1500/-
  • For SC/ST/PwD Candidates: Rs. 1000/-

Selection Procedure:

Candidates will undergo a Ph.D. written test for screening, followed by an interview. To be eligible for the Institute Fellowship, candidates must have a GATE score preceding their admission to the Master’s program in Engineering/Technology (no intermediate GATE score will be considered) or a valid GATE/NET score for Science/Humanities disciplines. Candidates possessing a B.Tech./B.E/B.Sc.(Engg.)/B.Arch./B.Plan. or an equivalent Degree in the relevant field from a recognized University/Institute with a minimum of 80% aggregate marks or an 8.5 CGPA on a 10-point scale (from class X to the qualifying degree) and a valid GATE score are eligible to apply for admission to the relevant departments/schools/centres.
