Indian Institute Technology (IIT) Guwahati invites application for Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) programme for the year 2014-15.

Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) Admission 2014-15 is conducted by Indian Institute Technology (IIT) Guwahati.

Categories of PhD Students

The Institute admits PhD students under the following categories:
=> Regular - A student in this category works full-time for his/her PhD degree

=> Sponsored (Full-Time)- A student in this category is sponsored by a recognized R&D organization, academic institution, govt. organization

=> Self-Financed (Full-Time) - A student in this category works full-time towards the PhD Programme

Ph.D Eligibility:

Interested candidates should fulfil following eligibility criteria:
PhD in Engineering :
=> Candidates should have a Master’s degree in Engineering/Technology/Medical Sciences/Veterinary Sciences/Pharmacy in a relevant area with a minimum 60% of marks
=> Four-year Bachelor’s degree in Engineering/Technology/Medical Sciences minimum 70% of marks.

Ph.D in Design:
=> M.Arch/M.Des degree or M.Tech/M.E. degree in a relevant area with a minimum 60% of marks.
=> Master’s degree in Applied Arts/Ergonomics/Fine Arts/Psychology/Physiology with a minimum 60% marks.
=> Bachelor’s degree in Design or Engineering/Technology in a relevant area with a minimum 70% of marks.
=> A two year PG Diploma in Design (NID/CEPT or equivalent) with first class at Bachelor’s level.
=> A regular student of IIT Guwahati who is continuing his/her M.Des studies and having a minimum CPI of 8.0 at the end of second semester may be enrolled in the Ph.D programme of the Dept in the beginning of his/her third semester of study

Ph.D in Science:
=> Master’s degree in Science in a relevant area with a minimum 60% of marks.
=> Master’s degree in Engineering/Technology/Design in a relevant area with a minimum 60% of marks.
=> Bachelor’s degree in a related area in Engineering/Technology/Design (from other than IITs) in a relevant area with a minimum 70% of marks

Ph.D in Humanities and Social Sciences:
=> Master’s degree in Arts/Commerce/Science in a relevant area with a minimum of 55% marks
=> Master’s degree in Engineering/Technology/Design in a relevant area with a minimum 60% marks
=> Bachelor’s degree in Engineering/Technology/Design (from other than IITs) in a relevant area with a minimum 70% marks.

Ph.D in Centres:
=> Master’s degree in Engineering/Technology/Design/Architecture/Medical Sciences in a relevant area with a minimum 60% of marks
=> Bachelor’s degree in Engineering/Technology/Medical Sciences in a relevant area with a minimum 70% of marks.
=> master’s degree in Social Sciences, in a relevant area, with a minimum 60% marks, is also considered for admission to the Centre for the Environment.

Relaxation for SC/ST/PD Candidates:
=> Eligibility criteria will be relaxed by 5% marks or 0.5 CPI for SC/ST/PD applicants

Mode of Examination

Ph.D is Computer Based Test (CBT).

Ph.D Application Procedure:

=> Get a print-out of the guideline for filling up online PhD application form

=> keep you a scanned copy of your recent coloured photograph of size more than 15 KB but less than 80 KB (4.5 cm x 3.5 cm) with file type jpeg or jpg or gif only, for direct uploading in to the online application form

=> Uploading of your coloured photograph is mandatory

=> Attested copy of your date of birth certificate, Scanned copies of pass certificate (original/provisional) and mark sheet of the qualifying degree, size more than 15 KB but less than 100 KB, for direct uploading in to the online application form.

=> Those appearing in their final examination will need to upload only the mark sheet of last semester/year of the qualifying degree

Candidates are required to submit following:
=> Duly Completed application form
=> demand draft for Rs.150/- (Rs.75/- for SC/ST/PD candidates)
=> A passport size photograph
=> Attested copy of 10th Class Public Examination certificate for Name and Age proof.
=> Attested copy of 10+2 Class mark sheet (if already passed 10+2 examination).
=> Attested copy of Bachelor Degree.
=> Attested copy of Master Degree.

Fee Details:

As such, if a candidate is shortlisted and called to appear in written test and/or interview, he/she should immediately arrange a demand draft for Rs.150/- (Rs.75/- for SC/ST/PD candidates), from any nationalized bank, in favour of Indian Institute of Technology, Guwahati, payable at Guwahati
