Kerala University M.Sc and Ph.d Admissions 2014

Applications are invited online from the eligible candidates for registration for full-time/part-time research leading to Ph.D/M.Sc (Engineering) by research degree of the University, for the January 2014 session, subject to availability of vacancies.
Candidates shall carry out their research under approved guide or guides in a University Department of in a Department of a college recognized as research centre or in a recognized research institution.

Eligibility For Ph.D Research:

Candidates Should Have-

* A master degree or its equivalent with more than 55% marks
* A candidate qualified in the entrance test conducted by this University or National Eligibility Test conducted by the UGC/CSIR/ICAR/ICMR or Gate or State Level Eligibility Test conducted by the Kerala Government of Fellowship awarded by the KSCSTE or M.Phil. degree by research and thesis. The M.Phil Degree shall be in the discipline concerned in which the applicant is seeking registration.

Eligibility for M.Sc (Engineering by Research), The Candidate should have:

* Bachelors Degree in Engineering with Minimum 55% Marks.
* Qualified in the Gate or Entrance Test conducted by this University or State Level Eligibility Test conducted by the Kerala Government

Relaxation of Marks:

Candidates who have got a minimum of 10 years of teaching experience at a College or University are eligible for a relaxation of 5% marks. However, in no case a candidate is having less than 50% marks be granted registration.

Candidates belonging to Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes who have secured 45% narks in Science subject and 40% marks in Arts and Commerce subjects can are also eligible.

Physically/visually challenged candidates are eligible for a relaxation of 5% marks for registration for research leading to Ph.D degree.

Exemption Form Entrance Test:

College/University teachers with seven or more years of teaching experienced and candidates with D.M/M.Ch. degree are exempted from the Entrance Test.

Scientists/Engineers working in approved Research Laboratories either owned or managed by the Central/State Government or in Autonomous Research Institutions of National Status, with seven years experience in the Grade Scientist/Engineer having two research papers published in the recognized research journals of the subject concerned approved by the Board of Studies concerned, are exempted from the Ph.D. Entrance Test.

Candidates with DBT-JRF are exempted from the Ph.D Entrance Test and they are permitted to register for research leading to Ph.D degree in Biotechnology.

Scientists/Ayurveda Doctors working in Pharmaceuticals/Hospitals/Research Centres owned by government with 7 years experienced and having 2 research papers published are exempted from Ph.D Entrance Test.

Candidates with DST-INSPIRE fellowship are exempted from Ph.D Entrance Test.

Candidates who have qualified ‘GPAT’ are exempted from Ph.D entrance test & are permitted to register for research leading to Ph.D degree in Pharmacy.

Candidates Selected to the QIP (Quality – Improvement Programme) introduced by AICTE, for teachers of AICTE approved degree level Engineering Institutions are exempted from Ph.D Entrance Test.

Seats Available:

The maximum number of candidates permitted to work each guide is ten, among which two candidates should have JRF/SRF of UGC/CSIR

However, those having Kerala University Library as research center and not attached to any other research centre can take only five candidates.

Those having research center as Kerala University Library and any additional center can take only two research scholars at Kerala University Library and 8 at other centres.

Even if a teacher/scientist is an approved guide in more than one discipline the total number of students he/she can guide at a time will remain unchanged. All approved guides will be permitted to supervise four foreign students in addition to the stipulated number.

In the case of interdisciplinary research the candidate will be allowed to have one co-guide depending on the requirement.

Vacancies available under each supervising teacher/research centre can be ascertained from the supervising teacher and the Head of the research centre. One seat in each subject is reserved for applicants belonging to scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes if they are otherwise eligible.
Exemption from Research methodology paper of the course work exam

Only those M.Phil degrees which have Research Methodology course in the curriculum will be considered for exemption from the Research Methodology paper of the course work examination.

Part time Registration:

Part-Time Ph.D registration shall be restricted to regular/permanent teachers in the subjects concerned of the Departments and affiliated Colleges of the University of Kerala.

Applications for Part-Time registration should be accompanied by a No Objection Certificate from the Appointment authority.

How to Apply:

Application should be submitted online

The print out of the application so submitted should be produced at the time of the doctoral committee along with attested/original copies of certificates and cash receipt.

Applicants from the faculty of Engineering, Medicine, Dentistry, Ayurveda and all subjects which are not being offered at and cash receipt/DD to the Registrar on or before 15th January, 2014.

Registration Fee:

Registration fee of Rs 520/- has to be paid by Kerala University cash receipt/Friends cash receipt/DD in favour of Finance Officer, University of Kerala, Thiruvananthapuram. (An additional amount of Rs 10/- to be paid as service charges in the case of DD)

The University of Travancore which eventually became the University of Kerala was established in 1937 by a promulgation of the Maharaja of Travancore, Sri Chithira Thirunal Balarama Varma who was also the first Chancellor of the University. Sir C. P Ramaswamy Ayyar, the then Diwan of the State, was the first Vice-Chancellor. It was the sixteenth University to be set up in India and ten Colleges within the State of Travancore which were affiliated to the Madras University became the affiliated colleges of the University of Travancore.
