Sikkim University, a Central University established by an Act of Parliament of India in 2007 is being designed in such a way so as to make it known for academic excellence and research, for its all inclusive institutional character and a strong instrument of regional development and cross-border integration Applications are invited from the eligible candidates for the entrance examination in the following programmes for the academic session 2013-14

The qualifying degrees are Class XII for integrated courses and a graduate with or without honours for postgraduate programme
For admission to PG programmes first priority shall be given to the candidates with Honours in concerned subject
The Pass Course candidates are also eligible for admission to various PG programmes but the total percentage of marks obtained in the concerned subject or aggregate shall be divided by 1.4 for preparation of the merit list The qualifying percentage of marks for admission to MA is 40% and for MSc it is 45% For admission to MPhil and PhD the cut-off shall be 50% for SC/ST and 55% for OBC and General

The students seeking admission to various departments of the University shall have the option to go for online application as well as submit their applications to the concerned department(s) The application form may be downloaded from www.sikkimuniversity.ac.in and submitted along with relevant documents and fee for admission form by demand draft payable to “Sikkim University”

The University will have collection centres for admission forms at several places in the city, including the Kanchenjanga Block and Science Block buildings Application forms shall be submitted to the office of the department(s) in which a student wants to seek admission
For admission of application forms to the departments against serial nos. 1, 5, 8, 9, 12, 13, 17, 19, 25, 28 and 29, please contact the Dean of Students’ Welfare, Sikkim University

A student may be allowed to apply for admission to a maximum of three departments
The admission committee of the department shall scrutinize the applications of Sikkimese students and students from outside Sikkim separately
50% seats shall be reserved for the students of Sikkim on the basis of reservation norms approved by the state government, but they may also be considered on merit for the remaining 50% Open posts along with students from anywhere in the world
A student who is selected in more than one department may inform the departments he/she is not joining within two working days from the date of publication of the selected candidates

Failure to do so will invite a fine of Rs.500/-

The application fee is Rs.100/- for general candidates and Rs.50 for candidates belonging to reserved categories

For admission to MPhil and PhD programmes, generally both written examination and interview are a must
However, applicants with NET (JRF)/SLET/MPhil shall be exempted from appearing in a written examination but they must face an interview
The application fee for MPhil and PhD shall be Rs.200/- for all categories of applicants and the allotment of seats shall be purely on the basis of merit

General and OBC candidates with at least 55% marks and SC/ST candidates with 50% marks in relevant disciplines may apply for MPhil and PhD programme
The employed candidates who are admitted to various programmes of the University shall produce leave sanction and release order from the employer for the duration of the programme within 30 days from the date of admission failing which their admission shall stand cancelled. For MPhil and PhD programmes, however, the sanction of leave may be limited to 1 year and 2 years respectively

Application Forms

Duly filled in application form along with the application fees; extra copies of recent passport size photographs; Attested copies of marksheets*, SC/ST/OBC certificates and Sikkim Subject certificates; Birth certificate; Character certificate from the Head of the Institution last attended;
The candidates whose BA/BSc/BCom/BEd results are not declared at the time of submitting the application may submit the marksheets of the first and second year (Semester I to IV) only and admission shall be considered on the basis of that
However, final admission shall be granted only on submission of 3rd year marksheets (V and VI semesters)

Publication of the First List of Selected Candidates: 23rd July, 2013
Publication of the Second and Final List of Selected Candidates: 25th July, 2013
