Raman Research Institute Bangalore Ph.D Admissions 2013

* Candidates must have a first class M.Sc degree in Physics or Chemistry or a first class B.E./B.Tech degree in Engineering
* Students who expect to complete their final degree in the academic year 2012-2013 may also apply

Reservation for SC/ST/OBC candidates will be as per norms

Selection Procedure:
The selection of candidates for the Ph.D program is based on the performance in the interviews to be held at RRI, Bangalore around second week of June 2013
There are about 17 vacancies in Physics and 1 in Chemistry

Candidates are selected for interview in Physics based on their performance in the Joint Entrance Screening Test 2013 (JEST-2013)
These students need not apply separately to RRI
JEST-2013 will be held on 17th February, 2013, Sunday from 10.00 a.m. to 01.00 p.m. at several centers throughout the country
Application forms and additional information about JEST may be obtained from the JEST website
Students qualified in CSIR-NET for JRF or with good score in GATE or in Advanced GRE (in the relevant subject) are also considered
These students will have to apply directly to RRI

JEST qualification is not mandatory for Chemistry
Selection will be based on a written test and interviews to be held at RRI around second week of June, 2013
These students will have to apply directly to RRI
Call letters for written test/ interviews will be sent to the selected students by RRI around mid-April, 2013

Raman Research Institute, Bangalore
The Raman Research Institute was founded in 1948 by the Indian physicist and Nobel Laureate, Sir C V Raman, to continue his studies and basic research after he retired from the Indian Institute of Science. Sir C V Raman served as its director carrying on his personal research until his demise in 1970. It was funded personally by him and with donations from private sources. In December 1934, the Government of Mysore gifted a plot of land in Bangalore to Professor Raman for the creation of a research institute. In the same year, the Indian Academy of Sciences was founded by Prof. Raman.
