International Institute for Population Sciences Admission for Master of Philosophy in Population Studies 2013-2014

Applications are invited for admission to the M.Phil programme of the Institute with Government of India fellowship for the academic session 2013-2014 to commence from 5th August, 2013:


No. of Fellowships: 50 Seats with Govt. of India fellowship.

M.A./M.Sc. in Demography/Master in Population Studies from a recognized university with at least 55% of marks or equivalent. Candidates appearing in the final year
qualifying examinations by June 2013 may also apply. The upper age limit is 30 years as on 30.6.2013. Marks and age are relaxable for candidates belonging to reserved categories as per GOI rules.

Duration: One year (Full-time)

Each selected Indian student will be awarded a Government of India fellowship @ ` 6,000/- per month. In addition, a contingency grant of ` 5,000/- per annum shall be paid for approved contingency expenses.

Selection Criteria:
The selection will be made on the basis of a written test, personal interview and past academic records. Only shortlisted candidates will be called for the test and interview. Shortlisted candidates appearing for admission test are entitled to claim sleeper class round trip fare by the shortest route on production of original tickets.

* Written Test and Personal Interview: 11 & 12 July, 2013.
* Commencement of Course: 5th August, 2013.

Reservation for SC/ST/OBC/PH candidates will be considered as per the Government of India norms.

Officials can also be sponsored by Government departments, research institutions, universities, medical colleges and non-governmental organisations to be considered
for admission. However, the selection will be made as per selection criteria. Eligible foreign students can also apply for admission provided they secure financial support from any outside agency.

Prescribed application form and information can be obtained from the Assistant Registrar (Academic), International Institute for Population Sciences, Deonar, Mumbai-400 088 in person or by sending a self addressed ` 50/- stamped envelope (25cm x 12cm) on or before 28th June, 2013. The completed application form along with necessary enclosures (including e-mail ID & telephone number) and a non-refundable processing fee of Rs. 400/- (exempted for SC/ST and PH candidates) by Demand Draft, drawn from any nationalised Bank in favour of the Director, IIPS, Mumbai should reach the Assistant Registrar (Academic) on or before 1st July, 2013. The processing fee may also be paid by cash at the cash counter and the cash receipt should be attached along with the completed application set.

The International Institute for Population Sciences (IIPS) serves as a regional Institute for Training and Research in Population Studies for the ESCAP region. It was established in Mumbai in July 1956, till July 1970 it was known as the Demographic Training and Research Centre (DTRC) and till 1985 it was known as the International Institute for Population Studies (IIPS).
