Admission notification for M.S. Programme for Astronomy and Astrophysics for the academic year 2013-2014

Indian Institute of Space Science and Technology (IIST) has been established in the year 2007 as an autonomous academic institution under Department of Space, Govt of India for providing quality human resources to the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) and other National Research and Development Organisations and Industries

MES03:

Earth and Space Sciences and Astronomy and Astrophysics

Education Qualification:

BE/B. Tech in any branch/ M.Sc in Physics with valid score in any one of the following:
GATE in any one of these codes: PH/EC/EE/XE
Joint Entrance Screening Test (JEST)
UGC NET (Physical Sciences)

Eligibility:

Only Indian citizens are eligible to apply
BE/B.Tech/M.Sc/M.S. or equivalent degree mentioned above should be in first class with an aggregate minimum of 60% marks or CGPA 6.5 out of 10
A valid GATE score in the above mentioned relevant area is essential
Age limit: 28 years as on 16th July, 2013
Age relaxation is applicable to SC/ST/Persons with disability (PWD) category as per Govt of India orders

Reservation:

Reservation for SC/ST/OBC/PWD is applicable as per Govt. of India Orders
Selected candidates will be given scholarship as per AICTE norms
The selection of candidates will be based on a written test in basic physics followed by an interview on 19th July, 2013
On completion of this M.S programme, outstanding students meeting the Ph.D norms of the institute may be considered for the Ph.D programme in Astronomy & Astrophysics at IIST
Candidates who had applied earlier and who meet the requirements mentioned above will be considered and hence need not apply again
No TA/DA is admissible for written test and interview
List of shortlisted candidates will be displayed in IIST website
No separate call letter will be dispatched
The shortlisted candidates are advised to make their own arrangements for travelling and lodging

Application form:

* Application forms received after the last date will not be considered under any circumstances
* Candidates who are expected to complete the degree course in the academic year 2012-2013 are also eligible to apply provided the degree certificate is produced on the day of interview
* The duly filled in application form may be sent to The Administrative Officer, Indian Institute of Space Science and Technology, Valiamala PO, Thiruvananthapuram- 695 547 along with the attested copies of certificates/testimonials and a Demand Draft for Rs. 600/- (Rs.300/- only for SC, ST and women candidates) on or before 16th July, 2013
* The Demand Draft should be drawn in favour of “Registrar, Indian Institute of Space Science and Technology,” payable at “Thiruvananthapuram.”
