Birla Institute of Technology BITS Admission Undergraduate Programme at Mesra in Bachelor of Pharmacy (B.Pharm) and Bachelor of Hotel Management and Catering Technology (BHMCT) 2013 Applications are invited from eligible candidates for admission to the 4-year (8-semester) Bachelor of Hotel Management and Catering Technology (BHMCT)-4 year (8-semester) This Undergraduate Information Brochure 2013 covers admission to the following academic programmes of the Institute, at Mesra, Ranchi. All programmes are full-time and will commence in July 2013

The students of Bachelor of Hotel Management and Catering Technology (BHMCT) will be allowed to exit from the programme after successful completion of 6th semester. In order to avail the exit option, the student has to submit in writing his/her willingness to avail this at the end of 4th semester
Such students would be given Bachelor of Hotel Management


Maximum age limit is 21 years as on 01 October, 1988 (26 years for SC/ST)

For B.Pharma:

Candidates must have appeared in JEE (Main) 2013 OR NEET-UG 2013 Candidates must have passed Class 12 /I. Sc. or Equivalent Qualifying Examination (QE) Candidates must have passed in English, Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics/Biology/Biotechnology in Class 12 / I. Sc. or Equivalent Qualifying Examination (QE) with minimum 50% marks (45% for SC/ST), Marks in Class 12 to be computed as average of following 4 subjects-English, Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics/Biology/Biotechnology


Candidates must have passed in all subjects in which they have appeared in class 12th (excluding optional subjects) with minimum 50% marks in average (45% for SC/ST) computed as average of best 5 subjects including English Candidates must have English in class 12/qualifying examination. Only those candidates whose date of birth falls on or after 1 October 1988 in case of General category and 1 October 1983 in case of SC/ST/PH are eligible for admission Candidates with foreign diplomas should see the EdCIL website for equivalence (, and if required should obtain an equivalence certificate well in advance from the evaluation division of the AIU (website case any Board awards grades instead of marks, the calculation of equivalent marks would be based on the procedure prescribed by the Board

Selection procedure for all programmes:

Based on marks obtained in class 12/qualifying examination, computed as in eligibility criteria, and counseling for eligible candidates to be held at Mesra Candidates who have appeared for class 12/qualifying examination in 2013 can also apply
They must send copy of mark sheet showing they have obtained required marks in qualifying examination before due date


B.Pharma-60 & BHMCT- 40


For all other programmes the reservation criteria for SC/ST are as per the statutory norms of Central Govt. (SC -15% & ST - 7.5%) The Institute observes statutory reservation for physically handicapped persons (3%)

For the above two courses offered at Mesra, 50% of the total seats are reserved for candidates who have passed / have appeared for their qualifying examination (Class 12) from Jharkhand State

For B.Pharm:

50% of the seats will be allocated to the candidates appeared in the JEE (Main) 2013 and rest of 50% for NEET-UG 2013

Application form:

Two recent colour photographs - one pasted on form and one attached by clip (write your Name and ‘programme applying for’, on the back of the second photo)

Crossed demand draft for Rs. 2,000/- (General) and Rs.1200/- (SC/ST) candidates (nonrefundable) in favour of Birla Institute of Technology, payable at Ranchi (write your name, telephone number and ‘programme applying for’, on the back of the DD)

Photocopies of following documents and certificates

Admit Card of JEE (Main) 2013 / NEET-UG 2013 (for B.Pharm programme
Score Card of JEE (Main) 2013 / NEET-UG 2013 (for B.Pharm programme

Candidates belonging to other special category as mentioned in Sec 5 [Physically Handicapped] must provide photocopy of certificate in proper format from appropriate authority

How to apply:

To apply for any of the programmes listed above, eligible candidates must download and print the application form available on our website, and send the completed form along with two recent colour photographs (one pasted on the form and one attached by clip to the form), with photocopies of all marksheets, certificates (see List of Enclosures), and a crossed Demand Draft for Rs.2,000/- (General) and Rs.1,200/- (SC/ST) candidates (non-refundable) in favour of “Birla Institute of Technology”, payable at Ranchi, in a A4 size envelope by appropriate means well in advance of the due date (preferably by means of which e-tracking is possible)

Write ‘name of programme applying for’, on the top of envelope
Candidate must have adequate proficiency in written and spoken English to cope with the programme as all instruction and examinations will be in English only
Postal requests must include letter and 2 slips of paper (10 x 10 cm) with name, address and tele number, and write UG B-2013 on envelope

BIT, Mesra is a "Deemed University" under Sec. 3 of the U.G.C. Act 1956. The Board of Governors is responsible for the main functions and overall supervision of activities.
