National Seminar On Re-Engineering Education Context and Content organized by Jammu University which is dated on March 13 2015. In response to the challenges of globalization and local dwelopment, educational reforms are inevitably becoming one of the major trends in India or other parts of the world. Re-Engineering is not a radical revolution that is going to completely transform education, its impact will be more of an emphasis on certain trends. Whatever may be the trends, firstly, we should remind ourselves that education must not lose sight of its traditional basic goals: reading, rwiting arithmetic consequently, teaching and learning is no longer a protected area of competence of the teaching profession but is gradually opening up to the other public and private sectors. New teaching arrd learning theories are challenging t]le teaching capacity of
a large number of educators who have been trained and who practise traditional approaches to education. New ways of acquiring knowledge and new delivery system tlEeaten the present system of education. Thus the need of hour is that the education should not make the teacher proficient in the art of teaching but it must also provide hirn a vivid awareness of the great issues and concerns of present time. He should have the feeling of being an active participant not only his local community but also in the nation and the world as a whole. Tlpically a reengineered educational activity is a significant modifrcation to, or a replacement of, a more classical activity such as the lecture/note-taking classroom setting' The process is also appropriate for the initial design of activities (courses) in newly created programs. Re-engineering education is a systematic Process of alalysis, design, and implementation of present educational system for upliftment of society'
well-designed (re-engineered) educational progralns, courses, and individuallearning units provide significant value to the leamers/students, faculty, and the institution. The value is derived from enhanced academic performance that produces outcomes appropriate to the established educational needs. compared to traditional educational methods, the re-engineered methods using advanced technolory and associated resources can provide major reductions in cost to individual learners, institutions, and society in general.
