About Events

United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) defines green economy as ‘one that results in improved human well-being and social equity, while significantly reducing environmental risks and ecological scarcities. In its
simplest expression, a green economy implies to reduce carbon emissions and pollution, enhance energy and resource efficiency, and prevent the loss of biodiversity and ecosystem services while ensuring the inclusive rise of income. Keeping in view the urgency of green growth, the UNEP launched Green Economy Initiative in the year 2008. This has been followed by other international organizations, such as, International Chamber of
Commerce (ICC), Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD), and United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia Pacific (UNESCAP). In 2010, ICC launched the unique global business Task Force on Green Economy which chalked out Green Economy Roadmap, for business, policymakers and society and it was published in 2012. In 2011 the OECD published a strategy towards green growth. Similarly, in 2012, the UNESCAP released the Low Carbon Green Growth Roadmap for Asia and the Pacific.
The Sub-themes of the seminar are as follows:
1. Green Economy: Concepts, indicators and measurement
2. Valuation of environment and environmental services
3. Management of forests, land, air and water
4. Climate Change, mitigation strategy and action
