Jawaharlal Nehru Institute of Advanced Studies and North East India Studies Programme,Jawaharlal Nehru University jointly organizes Conference On Framing a Region New Perspectives on North East India which will be held from March 25 2015 to March 27 2015. The conference "Framing a Region: New Perspectives on North East India " is an attempt to engage with such challenges of researching the region. With an interdisciplinary focus, the conference aims to bring together scholars working on different aspects of the region and how their studies have contributed in new ways of locating and understanding North East India. For example, recent works have highlighted how approaches such as Frontiers and Borderlands, Nation State, Literary and Cultural Studies, Linguistics, Ecologies and Development and Contemporary Geo-Politics can provide alternative ways of exploring the complexities of the region. Within these broad areas, issues of gender, resistance, ethnicity, identity, society and religion, art and cultural processes, print cultures, folk narratives, indigenous knowledge, ecologies, economies, historical geographies, development rights, and violence, among many other issues, have been explored in the recent times.The conference attempts to re-visit "North East India" by bringing together scholars whose works have contributed towards new perspective in understanding some of the complexities confronting the region.
