University of Pune will conduct Ph.D. Entrance Examination. Application form is required to submit online available at the University website. Ph.D. Entrance Examination consists of two papers.

Paper-I General Paper, Date of Examination :14th February, 2010.
List of Qualified Candidates in Paper-I will be displayed on the University website by 17/2/2010.

Paper-II : Subject Paper of the candidate. Candidates qualified in Paper-I are only eligible to appear for Paper-II Date of Examination for Paper-II : 21st February, 2010 for basic subjects.

For interdisciplinary subjects date would be 22nd and 23rd February, 2010. Date of Acceptance of online application will be from 15th January, 2010 to 25th January, 2010 till 6.00 p.m.

Eligibility Criteria

For admission to the Ph.D. programme in a related subject in the Faculty, applicants fulfilling any of the following criteria shall be treated as eligible:

a) Persons having passed Post Graduate Degree (Master Degree) Examination with at least 50% marks or equivalent Grade Point Average (GPA) Persons having passed Post Graduate Degree (Master Degree) Examination in the Faculty of Law with at least 55% marks. 5 % relaxation in the required percentage of marks will be given to the students of the State of Maharashtra belonging to SC/ST/DT/NT/SBC/OBC categories.

b) Persons working in National Laboratories/Institutes/Government/Private Organizationnominated/sponsored by the respective employer. These persons should have a Post Graduate Degree and holding a rank of Assistant Director or above. Above mentioned rules also will be applicable to the foreign candidates who have obtained a Masters Degree from any of the recognized Indian Universities.

c) Persons with exceptional abilities having passed graduate degree examination with 50% of marks and with 15 years experience after graduation in the related field. However, candidates possessing B.E. Degree in the faculty of Engineering shall also have patents/ intellectual property rights registered in their names. In such cases, exceptional abilities will be decided by the Research and Recognition Committee concerned.

d) Senior citizen of an age of 60 years and above, with a Master's Degree. In exceptional cases, the eligibility for senior citizen shall be at the discretion of the Vice -Chancellor on the recommendation of the Dean of concern Faculty.

e) The fellow members of the Institute of Chartered Accountants and / or Institute of Cost and Works Accountants and / or having qualification of Company Secretary shall be eligible for admission to the Ph.D. programme in the subject allocated to the Board of Studies concerned under the Faculty of Commerce. Provided that such candidates possess a Bachelor’s Degree of any recognized University and also have at least 5 years’ professional experience.

f) A Graduate in any Faculty who has developed important new technology (new for the country) or designed and fabricated special instruments or apparatus which are deemed by a competent judge to be a valuable contribution in the field of Engineering/Pharmacy, may be permitted by the Research and Recognition Committee of the Faculty concerned, on the recommendation of the appropriate Board or Boards of Studies to submit his thesis for the Ph.D. Degree in that Faculty. Such a candidate must have at least 5 years' standing as a Bachelor of the Faculty concerned.

g) Application for research in interdisciplinary areas and from applicants belonging to a Faculty or subjects other than the Faculty or subjects in which the research is proposed to be done and from the international candidates (those who have not obtained the Master’s Degree from Indian Universities) shall be considered on the basis of the proven ability and aptitude of the researcher for such kind of research. Such proposal shall be examined by the Guide and the Head, Place of Research before giving provisional admission. The admission will be confirmed after the Research and Recognition committee/s concerned, approves the topic. Detailed procedure for admission should be evolved by the Faculty concerned.

h) Percentage of marks required for admission of foreign candidates (those who have not obtained Master’s degree from Indian Universities) will be 50% or equivalent GPA at Master’s Degree level.

Before filling the online application please check the vacant position for admission.

Required documents : Candidate shall enclose the following documents along with the hard copy of Application:

a) Universif copy of Bank Challan.

b) Attested photo copy of Marks Statement of Master's Degree.

c) Affested photo copy of the Caste Certificate in case of Reserved Category Candidates (if applicable).

d) Attested photo copy of the Medical Certificate issued by Civil Surgeon in case of Persons with Disabilities (P.H.) candidates (if applicable).

e) Document required for exemption from Paper - I :

Attested photo copy of supporting documents & certificates in case of candidates exempted as per University Circular No.21712014 dated 2811112014 (as mentioned in exemption Clause No. 2 (a)

i Attested photo copy of GATE /GPAT/SET/I{ET/JRF/SRF Certificate.

ii. Attested photo copy of M.Phil. Degree Certificate.

iii. Attested photo copy of previous PET Paper-l Result.

iv. Exemption under University Approved Teachers:

  • J years experience certificate as an approved teacher of affiliated college/recognized institution concerned with attested photo copy of Teacher Approval Letter issued by Savitribai Phule Pune University.
  • Appointment letter in case of Teachers of University Departments.
  • Teacher Approval from any other University will not be considered for exemption.

v. Attested photo copy of Leaving Certificate or any other relevant documents in support of date of birth in case of Senior citizens.

vi. In case of Advocate/Doctor/Artist/lndustry Professional/Employee of Government, Semi-Government Organization etc. attested photo copies of supporting documents & certificates which are required to prove that conditions prescribed for the relevant Faculty as mentioned in Schedule of CircularNo.21712014 are fulfilled.

Incomplete applicationsiapplications without required documents/ applications submitted after the due date will be rejected without assigning any reason/s and no correspondence will be entertained by the University in this regard.

The PET examination will be conducted in English language for all faculties, except for subjects in the faculty of Arts, Fine Arts & Performing Arts, Mental Moral & Social Sciences, Commerce, Education, Physical Education and Geography in the Faculty of Science, examination will be conducted in English as well as in Marathi.

Online registration process will be treated as completed only after receipt of a Hard Copy of an application along with necessary documents & certificates.

Candidate shall fill the online application and send a hard copy of the Application along with above mentioned documents by Speed Post

Exam Pattern

For Entrance Examination, there would be two papers i.e. Paper-l and Paper-2. Paper-1 would be General Aptitude Test of 100 marks and Paper-2 would be Subject-wise/Facultywise Test of 100 marks.

Paper 1: General Aptitude Test which will have 100 questions with multiple choice covering Logical Reasoning, Numerical Ability, Reasoning and Language Aptitude.

Standard of Passing: Candidate who score 50% and more will be declared as passed (45%for the candidates belonging to SC/ST/DT/NT/SBC/OBC categories). The list of successful candidates in Paper 1 will be declared faculty-wise and such candidates will be eligible for Paper-2.

Paper 2: Subject Specific Test: This paper will be of 100 marks. Paper-2 Examination will be conducted only by the respective University Departments/Research Centres authorized for the purpose.

  1. 20 marks will be allocated for 20 objective - multiple choice questions covering relevant subject in the Faculty.
  2. 80 marks will be allocated for theoretical descriptive questions.
  3. Teachers of the respective University Departments/Research Centres will decide the nature of theoretical questions and weightages to be given out of 80 marks on various components of theory questions such as descriptive questions, case study, comprehension, essays, etc.
  4. The syllabi of various papers covered under different Boards and Faculties will be decided by the teachers of the respective University Departments/Research Centres and the same will be notified at least 30 days before the date of the examination.

The candidate should verify all the information in the admit card. If any issue is found, then get it corrected with the concerned authority.

The candidates are required to carry the admit card to the examination hall. Without it, you will not be allowed to enter the examination hall. It is also very important to document for the further admission processes.
