Symbiosis Entrance Test (SET) is a common written test for the admission processes of undergraduate institutes of Symbiosis International University established as under section 3 of the UGC Act 1956 vide notification No.F.9.12/2001 U.3 of the Govt. of India. In the year 2002 there were 3 constituent institutes, subsequently ten more Institutes of Symbiosis have been brought under the ambit of Symbiosis International University vide notification No.F.9.12/2006-U.3 (A).It is a mandatory written test for the admission process for the undergraduate programmes of the following Symbiosis institutes.

However SET is not mandatory for the Symbiosis instititute of Technology (SIT) and Symbiosis Institute of Health Sciences (SIHS). Note: Candidates those who are applying to Symbiosis Institute of Technology (SIT) and Symbiosis Institute of Health Sciences (SIHS) should visit their website for further details. SET is only the first step. Each Symbiosis institute has its independent selection process. The test will be conducted in two sessions, Morning and Afternoon. A Candidate may take more than one paper. However he may choose one paper from morning session and one paper from afternoon session.

Eligibility Criteria

The eligibility criteria depends upon the course and institute you wish to apply. For engineering, health sciences, law design and other courses the conditions for eligibilty shall differ General eligibility conditions for Symbiosis Entrance Test (SET) 2017 shall be as follows:

  • The candidate must have passed XII (10+2) examination from any recognized Board with a minimum of 45% marks (40% for SC/ST candidates)
    Students who have appeared for their Standard XII final examination and are awaiting results are also eligible to apply, subject to submission of passing certificate at the time of the final admission

How to Apply

You may apply online for admission to an undergraduate Institute of the University; the application fee is Rs.1000/- per Institute except for SICSR (The application fee for SICSR is Rs.1000/- for one programme and Rs.2000/- for two programmes)

There are two options to apply for admission to an Institute:

  1. From SET website

    While paying SET fees online, a candidate may also pay the application fee for admission to a desired Institute. Even after closing of the payment for SET, a candidate may still apply to an Institute through the SET website

  2. From the Institute website

    A candidate may also register separately for the SET on Official Website and for the Institute by visiting the respective Institutes's website. Please note, registering for the SET test and paying fees for the SET test is mandatory before registering for an Institute/program It is important to see that a candidate appears for the appropriate SET paper to seek admission An Institute may also be offering more than one programme. A candidate should ensure the desired programme is selected You cannot apply to an Institute that does not accept the score of the test that he / she chooses to give. For example, if you choose to give the General test only, you cannot apply to SLS Similarly, if you choose to give the Law test only, you cannot apply to SSE or SCMS or SICSR You may give both tests and apply to all the four Institutes Similarly, you may give the Design test and the Engineering/Health Sciences test and also apply to SID, SIT, SIHS and SCON After declaration of the SET result, the Institute to which you have applied will conduct the further selection process for short listed candidates. The schedule for the same will be published on the websites of the respective Institutes.

It is a mandatory written test for the admission process for the undergraduate programmes of the following Symbiosis Institutes namely:

  1. Symbiosis Law School [SLS] - Pune
  2. Symbiosis Law School [SLS] - Noida
  3. Symbiosis Institute of Computers Studies and Research [SICSR]
  4. Symbiosis Centre for Management Studies [SCMS] - Pune
  5. Symbiosis Center for Media & Communication [SCMC]
  6. Symbiosis School of Economics [SSE]
  7. Symbiosis Centre for Management Studies [SCMS] - Noida
  8. Symbiosis Institute of Design [SID]
  9. Symbiosis School of Liberal Arts [SSLA]
  10. Symbiosis Law School [SLS] - Hyderabad

Symbiosis Institute of Technology (SIT) also admits students through JEE Main conducted at National level However, the SET is not mandatory for:

  1. Symbiosis institute of Technology (SIT)
  2. Symbiosis Institute of Health Sciences (SIHS)
  3. Symbiosis College of Nursing (SCON)
  4. Symbiosis School of Photography (SSP)
  5. Symbiosis School for Liberal Arts (SSLA): [For International Baccalaureate (IB) students are exempt from SET]

Exam Pattern

Duration: The duration for SET is 150 minutes. The SET is an objective test.

Papers: The SET is conducted in two sessions for a total of FIVE question papers. A candidate may choose to apply for one paper in each session.

SET test is conducted in 19 cities. A candidate may choose any one city. The centre and its address will be informed to the candidate on the admit card.

Admit Card / Hall Ticket

SET admit card 2017 was available in official website from the Month of April, 2017; the printout should be taken from there. An authenticated Admit Card is an important document without which the candidate will not be permitted to appear for further selection processes of SIU, admit Card along with Photo Identity proof (Voter ID, passport, DL, Pan card, AAdhar card etc. ) should be carried to the Test Centre at the time of the test.

Admissions will be made on the basis of ranks secured in the SET 2017 and JEE Main examination. Only registered candidates can participate in the counselling process. The Symbiosis Counselling 2017 will start in the month of June, 2017. The university has announced the notification about cut off and further process of SET 2017.

Symbiosis Counselling Procedure

  • Candidates have to be physically present at the time of counselling in the specified time and date.
  • In counselling process, candidates have to choose their seats as per their choices.
  • Candidates should carry all the original certificates and two sets of Attested Photocopies of the certificates in counselling for the document verification process.
  • The seats will be allotted after the document verification process.
  • Candidates are required to pay the provisional admission Fee through a DD in favour of “Symbiosis Institute of Technology, Pune” payable at Pune.
  • In case students would not allotted any seats in the counselling process they can apply for the waiting list on payment of Rs.1,00,000/- through a DD (the fee will be returned in case candidates does not get any seat allotted).

Documents Required for Symbiosis Counselling

Some documents required in the Symbiosis Counselling for the documents verification process. Candidates have to bring all the required original documents along with the 2 set of attested photocopies. Here we have mentioned the list of required documents:

  • 12th class mark sheet and certificate
  • Admit Card of SET/ JEE (Main)/ MHT-CET
  • School Leaving Certificate
  • Migration Certificate
  • Pass Certificate of qualifying examination

  • Caste certificate (if candidates belong to any reserved category)
  • Gap certificate (if applicable)
  • Address proof
  • 4 passport size photographs
  • Blood Group ID
