National Entrance Examination for Design (NEED) is amongst the famous entrance examination for Undergraduate level programs in design. It is one of the most important entrance examinations for all the candidates aspiring for a career in design. For admission in National Institute of Design and other institutes the candidates are shortlisted according to their NEED scores. After that the selected candidates have to give studio tests and personal interview for admission process. The students have to fill an application form in order to get the chance to sit in this entrance exam. The students also have to follow all sorts of instructions mentioned in the form.

Eligibility Criteria

The eligibility requirements for NEED are the following

For GDPD

  • Qualifying or appearing 10+2 examination or equivalent course
  • Age must be 20 yrs or below 20 yrs (For reserved seats the age must be 23 yrs or below 23 yrs) as on June 01

For PGDPD

  • The eligibility varies from discipline to discipline. Qualifying or appearing Graduation or equivalent is eligibility for most of the courses. Few of the courses like Product Design need Engineering or Technological courses as eligibility.
  • Age must be 30 yrs or below 30 yrs (For reserved seats the age must be 33 yrs or below 33 yrs)
  • The candidate those who fulfill academic eligibility but not the age can take Design Aptitude Test (DAT).

    How to Apply

    The application form is available in the online Application website. The information must be filled online and print the completed application form. It must be to the main office attached with required documents and Demand Draft drawn on any nationalized bank in favor of “National Institute of Design” payable at Ahmedabad. Candidates will receive the Hall ticket by post. The forms are also available at selected branches of Bank of India.

    Exam Pattern

    The exam for GDPD students consist written examination and studio test are the phases. The top 300 candidates who clear the first phase will be eligible for the studio test. Out of 300, only 100 students get selected for the admission. The allocation of discipline will be done in the second year where as the first year contain common syllabus.

    The exam for PGDPD contains written examination, group discussion and personal interview. The top 735 candidates who clear the written examination will be eligible for the second phase i.e., for group discussion and personal interview. 245 candidates who show top performance in the second phase would be selected for the admission in any of the 17 disciplines.

    Syllabus

    NID Entrance Exam consists of questions from the following topics:

    The written examination is followed by studio test and personal interview. The examination doesn't follow any prescribed syllabus and the question are included from the following area:

    1. Visual Design
    2. Thematic Color Arrangement
    3. Subjects of Design
    4. Sensitivity to Environment
    5. Memory Drawing
    6. Knowledge of Proportions and Perspective
    7. General Mental Ability
    8. Drawing Skills
    9. Creativity
    10. Composition
    11. Communication Skills
    12. Animation
    13. Abstract Symbolism

    Admit Card / Hall Ticket

    The candidate should verify all the information in the admit card. If any issue is found, then get it corrected with the concerned authority.

    The candidates are required to carry the admit card to the examination hall. Without it, you will not be allowed to enter the examination hall. It is also very important to document for the further admission processes.

    Cutoff

    The cut off score depends on difficulty level of exam, availability of seats, number of applicants, etc. Based on the cut-off score examination authority prepares the merit list and candidates are called for counselling.

    Results

    The candidates are required to enter their respective NEED 2017 Roll Number for checking their result and downloading of their scorecard. The result will furnish the rank secured by the candidates. Based on the result of NEED and the cutoff screening, eligible candidates would be selected for the next round of selection process. The selected candidates would be enlisted in a merit list and will be called for counselling cum allotment on the basis of appearance in the list.

    Counselling

    Candidates who are qualified in National Entrance Examination for Design will be called for the counselling process of NEED 2017.
