Karnataka Biotechnology Aptitude Test (KBAT) for Admission of students to Biotechnology Finishing Schools (BTFS) for post graduate diploma in specialized biotechnology related job-oriented courses. The fast growing biotechnology sector in Karnataka has been facing severe shortage of industry-ready graduates and post-graduates for a long time. In an effort to fulfill the needs of the industry, the Karnataka government in association with the Vision Group, ABLE and Industry representatives has developed a mechanism to provide employment opportunities in the sector. In the Millennium Biotech Policy-II, the Government of Karnataka has initiated establishment of finishing schools across the state. Twelve BT Finishing Schools (BTFS) have been established in Karnataka with appropriate course content and duration to equip graduates and post-graduates with necessary employable skills and to make them industry ready.

Eligibility Criteria

  • Minimum of 50% in Masters degree from Universities of the state or any other University recognized as equivalent in Life Sciences, Biotechnology,
    Microbiology, Biochemistry, Bioinformatics or any other Life Science related courses.
  • Minimum of 50% in B.E./ B.Tech. – Biotechnology, Bioinformatics, Bachelor of Pharmacy, Agriculture, Veterinary, MBBS and BDS (Minimum of 4 year
    degree in Life Sciences)
  • Candidates who have pursued Veterinary (BVSc & M V SC) , MBBS, MD, BDS and MDS are eligible only for BTFS Domains listed below.
    a) Cellular & Molecular Diagnostics (CMD) - School of Life Sciences, Manipal and The Oxford College of Sciences, Bangalore.
    b) Pre-clinical, Clinical Research, Biostatistics & Data management (PCDM) - PES University, Bangalore and Maharani Lakshmi Ammanni College for
    Women, Bangalore
    c) Bioinformatics & Rational Drug Design (BRD) - Siddaganga Institute of Technology, Tumkur and Maharani Lakshmi Ammanni College for Women,
    Bangalore.
  • B.Sc degree holders with 50% aggregate are eligible only for Plant Tissue Culture & Micropropagation (PTC) domain at MMAS - Sirsi & St. Aloysius
    College - Mangalore.
  • Candidates who have appeared for the their final exams can also apply but have to produce your final semester / year marks cards or computer print
    out of your online declared results or provisional degree certificate at the time of counseling and also submit your final semester / year marks card
    before BTFS course commencement.

Application Fee

A sum of Rs. 10,000 (non-refundable) to be paid for confirming the allotted seat and Rs. 40,000 to be paid directly to the BTFS host institution.

KBAT Registration & Examination Fee Structure
Fees for the 12 months' program shall not exceed Rs.50,000/- per student.

How to Apply

Candidates Have to follow the below instructions-

  1. Candidates have to make payment through NEFT – National Electronics Funds Transfer
  2. The nearest bank will help the candidates about the procedure
  3. Candidates have to pay the requisite amount to the bank
  4. The details of the payment using NEFT are given in the official website

Exam Pattern

KBAT is an online test. The test is common to all BTFS courses. The pattern of KBAT goes like this –

  1. Question paper will have objective type questions
  2. Time allowed for the test will be 100 minutes
  3. All total there will be 100 questions
  4. 1 mark is allotted for each correct answer
  5. There is a penalty for wrong answer. Penalty for different answers will have different weights

Admit Card / Hall Ticket

The candidate should verify all the information in the admit card. If any issue is found, then get it corrected with the concerned authority.

The candidates are required to carry the admit card to the examination hall. Without it, you will not be allowed to enter the examination hall. It is also very important to document for the further admission processes.

Cutoff

Results

The candidates are required to enter their respective KBAT 2017 Roll Number for checking their result and downloading of their scorecard. The result will furnish the rank secured by the candidates. Based on the result of KBAT and the cutoff screening, eligible candidates would be selected for the next round of selection process. The selected candidates would be enlisted in a merit list and will be called for counselling cum allotment on the basis of appearance in the list.
