Chandigarh University has decided to conduct an entrance cum scholarship test named as\u00a0Chandigarh University Common Entrance Test (CUCET)<\/a>\u00a0for admission to various programs so as to provide an opportunity to bright and inquisitive young minds from across the country to study in most challenging and diverse academic environment.<\/p> CUCET Syllabus<\/a> has been released by the authorities of Chandigarh University. Candidates can check the syllabus of CUCET 2023 to know the subjects, units and topics that have to be studied for the upcoming entrance examination. The subject-wise CUCET syllabus will allow the candidates to become familiar with the topics that they have to prepare to excel in the examination. CUCET\u00a0Chemistry (Lateral Entry)\u00a0Syllabus<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Chemistry (Lateral Entry)<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Unit-1: Basic Concept of Chemistry<\/h3>\n\n\n\n
    \n
  • Physical Classification of matter \u2013solids, liquids, gases.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  • Chemical Classification of matter \u2013 element, compounds and mixtures<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  • Symbols of elements and valency, writing of chemical formulae of simple compounds.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  • Calculation of percentage of elements in the following compounds using atomic and molecular masses of CaCO3, NaCl, CuSO4, NaOH, Ca(OH)2, H2SO4, C2H2O4. (Atomic mass of elements should be provided)<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  • Chemical equations, thermo-chemical equations, balancing of chemical equations (hit and trial method)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n

    Unit-2: Atomic Structure, Periodic Table and Chemical Bonding<\/h3>\n\n\n\n
      \n
    • Fundamental particles- mass and charges of electrons, protons and neutrons with names of the scientists who discovered these fundamental particles.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
    • Bohr\u2019s model of atom and successes and drawbacks of Bohr\u2019s Model of atom (qualitative treatment only).<\/li>\n\n\n\n
    • Atomic number, atomic mass number isotopes and isobars.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
    • Definition of orbit and orbitals, shapes of s and p orbitals only, quantum numbers and their significance,<\/li>\n\n\n\n
    • Aufbau\u2019s principle, Pauli\u2019s exclusion principle and Hund\u2019s rule electronic configuration of elements with atomic number (Z) = 30 only. (Electronic configurations of elements with atomic number greater than 30 are excluded).<\/li>\n\n\n\n
    • Modern periodic law and periodic table, groups and periods, classification of elements into s, p, d and f blocks (periodicity in properties – excluded)<\/li>\n\n\n\n
    • Chemical bonding and cause of bonding and types of chemical bonding; Ionic bond (example NaCl) and Covalent bond (sigma (\u03c3) and pi (\u03c0) bonds) with examples of H2, O2 ,N2 and CH4. Elementary idea of hybridization and its types (sp3, sp2 & sp) with examples of CH4 BF3 & BeCl2.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
    • Metallic bonding- explanation with the help of electron gas (sea) model.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n

      Unit-3: Solutions<\/h3>\n\n\n\n
        \n
      • Definition of solution, solute and solvent with examples<\/li>\n\n\n\n
      • Methods to express the concentration of solution- molarity (M), molality<\/li>\n\n\n\n
      • (m) and normality (N) and numericals based on calculation of M, m and N<\/li>\n\n\n\n
      • Introduction to pH of solution, simple numericals on pH and industrial applications of pH.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
      • Definition of buffer solution and types of buffer solutions with examples and industrial applications of buffers solutions.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n

        Unit-4: Water<\/h3>\n\n\n\n
          \n
        • Demonstration of water resources on Earth using pie chart.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
        • Classification of water \u2013 soft water and hard water, action of soap on hard water, types of hardness, causes of hardness, units of hardness \u2013 mg per liter (mgL-1) and part per million (ppm) and simple numericals.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
        • Disadvantages caused by the use of hard water in domestic and boiler feed water.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
        • Removal of hardness -Permutit process and Ion-exchange process.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
        • Chemical analysis of water for estimation of<\/li>\n\n\n\n
        • Total dissolved solids (TDS)<\/li>\n\n\n\n
        • Alkalinity of water<\/li>\n\n\n\n
        • Drinking water and characteristics of drinking water.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
        • Natural water sterilization by chlorine and UV radiation and reverse osmosis (elementary idea).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n

          Unit-5: Electro Chemistry<\/h3>\n\n\n\n
            \n
          • Electronic concept of oxidation, reduction and redox reactions<\/li>\n\n\n\n
          • Definition of terms: electrolytes, non-electrolytes with suitable examples<\/li>\n\n\n\n
          • Faradays laws of electrolysis and simple numerical problems.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
          • Industrial Application of Electrolysis \u2013 Electroplating, electrolytic refining and electrometallurgy.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
          • Application of redox reactions in electrochemical cells \u2013 commercial dry cell (Primary), commercially used lead storage battery (Secondary cell).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n

            Unit-6: Organic Chemistry<\/h3>\n\n\n\n
              \n
            • Tetra valency and catenation property of carbon to produce huge organic compounds.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
            • Classification of organic compounds on the bases of functional groups<\/li>\n\n\n\n
            • Nomenclature of simple organic compounds in accordance with I.U.P.A.C.
