The National Council of Science Museums (NCSM) is an autonomous scientific organization under the Ministry of Culture, Government of India. It was established in 1978 to promote science communication and science popularization in India. NCSM has a network of 26 Science Centres/Museums spread all over the country. These centers offer a variety of interactive exhibits, educational programs, and other resources to visitors of all ages.

The NCSM plays an important role in promoting science and technology education and awareness in India. Its museums and centers offer a variety of interactive exhibits, educational programs, and public outreach activities. The NCSM also conducts research on science communication and museum education.

NCSM M.Tech Admission

The M.Tech program offered under the aegis of NCSM is designed to cater to the modern-day technological demands, equipping students with up-to-date knowledge and hands-on experience. Admission to this sought-after program is highly competitive, attracting candidates from various corners of India. The curriculum is meticulously curated, emphasizing both foundational concepts and emerging trends in the field of technology.

Eligibility for NCSM M.Tech Admission:

M.Sc in any subject (including M.Sc in Museology) with at least 55% marks at M.Sc level for candidates belonging to General/General-EWS & 50% at M.Sc level for candidates belonging to SC/ST/OBC-NCL/Third gender and Persons with Disability categories.

OR

BE/ B.Tech in any subject with at least 55% marks at BE/ B.Tech level for candidates belonging to General/General-EWS & 50% at BE/ B.Tech level for candidates belonging to SC/ST/OBC-NCL/Third gender and Persons with Disability categories.

Candidates with PhD (in Science or Engineering) or M.Tech in Engineering are also eligible to apply. However, for such candidates, the minimum marks at M.Sc/BE/B.Tech level can be relaxed.

Age Limit

30 years (As on 1st Jan of every year)

Admission Procedure

The admission to the course will be strictly based on all-India admission test and interview. However, for candidates sponsored by NCSM or any other organization, no admission test will be taken provided the candidates possess the essential qualifications.

Admission fee

There is a nominal and non-refundable admission fee of Rs. 2000/- per candidate. For candidates belonging to SC/ST/OBC-NCL/Third gender/Persons with Disability categories, the admission fee is Rs. 1000/-.

Selection Process:

  • Shortlisted candidates will be called for a written test and an interview.
  • The written test will cover objective and subjective questions on science communication, science and technology, and general knowledge.
  • The interview will assess the candidate’s communication skills, motivation, and aptitude for science communication.

Semester fee and Tuition Fee

There is no Semester fee. For all candidates, the monthly Tuition Fee is Rs.2000/- except for those belonging to SC/ST/OBC-NCL/Third gender/ Persons with Disability categories who are not required to pay any tuition fee.

Fellowship

NCSM will offer a monthly fellowship of Rs. 12,000/- to all candidates except to the sponsored candidates. The fellowship will be offered for two years subject to satisfactory performance by the student. NCSM will also offer Rs. 12,000/- contingency grant per annum to all candidates (except to the sponsored candidates) for purchase of books, stationeries etc. For candidates sponsored by NCSM, such contingency expenditure may be reimbursed by the respective zonal headquarters.

Accommodation

Free bachelors’ hostel accommodation (both ladies and gents) will be available in Kolkata.

  • Interested candidates can apply online through the NCSM website (www.ncsm.gov.in).
  • The last date for submitting applications is usually 31st August of the year in which the course is to commence.
