The Indian Institute for Human Settlements (IIHS), located in Bangalore, is now accepting applications for the 2024 Urban Fellows Program (UFP). This program is designed for graduates and young professionals and spans nine months. It is a fully funded interdisciplinary fellowship aimed at providing comprehensive teaching and learning opportunities.
IIHS Bangalore Urban Fellows Program 2024
UFP is a scholarship-based, nine-month, full-time, residential, and interdisciplinary programme based at the IIHS City Campus in Bengaluru. It seeks to combine classroom teaching, site-based applied learning, and introduce Fellows to diverse forms of urban practice through a choice of independent projects; work in live IIHS projects; or external internships. The Program is open to recent graduates and young professionals from varied educational backgrounds or practice domains.

Eligibility Criteria
- An ideal candidate will have a Bachelor’s Degree in any subject or discipline and their age should not exceed 30 years at the time of the UFP’s commencement.
- Therefore, candidates should be born on or after 1 August 1994. The Program may, subject to facts and circumstances, consider non-degree training and certification programs completed after 10+2 schooling.
- Candidates without any formal education after their 10+2 may also apply, especially if they have valuable experience of formal or informal work in urban sectors.
- All candidates must have basic proficiency in reading English. There is support available for candidates with limited speaking ability in English and they are encouraged to apply.
- Candidates must be Indian citizens. OCI Card holders are not eligible to apply at this time.
- We strongly encourage applications from women, people with disabilities, and those from economically and socially excluded communities.
Fees and Scholarships
The Urban Fellows Program (UFP) is a scholarship-based, nine-month, full-time, residential, interdisciplinary program located at the IIHS City Campus in Bengaluru. It consists of seven months of in-class teaching followed by two months of internship placements in various locations. The tuition fee for the 2023-24 UFP is INR 2.75 Lakhs, including GST, payable in three installments over the year. This fee covers all accommodation costs, travel expenses for exposure visits, as well as local and intercity travel for practical projects.
Upon admission, all fellows are required to pay a refundable deposit of INR 20,000 to secure their spot in the program. Financially needy fellows can request a deposit waiver, which will be assessed on a case-by-case basis during admission. The UFP is committed to providing scholarships to candidates unable to afford the tuition fees, ensuring the program remains need-blind.
Furthermore, a limited number of stipends are available to cover daily living expenses for candidates with significant financial need. Candidates can indicate their interest in these stipends during the admission process.

- Applicants are also required to submit a Personal Statement (700 words) addressing the following prompt: In a city with which you are familiar, delineate an urban issue that either concerns or inspires you.
