CSRTI, Berhampore: Post Graduate Diploma in Sericulture (PGDS) Admission

The CSRTI, Berhampore offers a structured course, the Post Graduate Diploma in Sericulture (PGDS), affiliated with the University of Kalyani since 2007-08 through an MOU signed between the two institutions. Admission to PGDS is announced through leading newspapers, and the institute follows the University of Kalyani’s admission norms.

The prospectus can be accessed on the institute’s website (www.csrtiber.res.in) or obtained by post with a payment of Rs.50/= through a demand draft favoring the Director, CSR & TI, Berhampore, along with a self-addressed stamped envelope of Rs.30/=.

Objectives:

  • Generate professionally competent post-graduates to meet the manpower requirements of the sericulture industry.

About the Course:

  • Commences annually on 1st July, following a semester scheme completed in two semesters.
  • Open to Bio-science graduates from recognized universities.

Duration:

  • 15 months, including a 3-month intensive Practical Training (IPT)/Dissertation/Project work.

Intake:

  • Total of 40 students, including 20 candidates from the Directorate of Sericulture and 20 seats for fresh candidates on a convertible basis.

Qualification:

  • B.Sc. degree with Sericulture, Zoology, Botany, Biochemistry, or Agriculture as electives/options, with a minimum of 45% marks (40% for SC & ST) in aggregate.

Age limit:

  • Maximum 50 years for in-service candidates and a minimum of 21 years for fresh candidates.

Fee Structure:

  • Sponsored by DOS: Rs.5000/-
  • Sponsored by NGO: Rs.7,500/-
  • Others: Rs.10,000/-
  • An additional Rs.5000/- to be borne by the concerned for the Study Tour.

Admission Procedure / Selection process 

a) Essential Qualification: The candidate should possess Graduate degree from recognized Indian university in biological sciences or Graduate degree in any discipline with basic knowledge of sericulture/silk and a reasonable understanding of the basic biological concepts and principle.

b) Short-listing of Candidates: Candidates (Open/Sponsored) fulfilling the essential qualification (Graduate degree in biological sciences) are eligible for admission directly based on available vacancy.Whereas, candidates possessing degree other than biological science will have to qualify the screening test conducted by the institute. 

c) Age: The applicants should be in the age group of 21-40 years as on 01.07.2023, however, there is no age limit for in-service candidates working in Department of Sericulture of various States.
