Rajiv Gandhi National University of Law, Punjab invites applications for admissions to Common Law Admission Test (CLAT) for the academic year 2016 - 17.

CLAT is a yearly exam conducted for admissions to LLB & LLM in various National Law Universities in the country.

Common Law Admission Test (CLAT) 2016 is Organizinged by Rajiv Gandhi National University of Law, Patiala

Common Law Admission Test (CLAT) is a non-statutory body created under a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for the convenience of the students seeking admission to various National Law Universities in the country.

The Common Law Admission Test (CLAT), is an all India entrance examination, conducted on rotation by 17 National Law Universities (NLUs) for admissions to their Under-Graduate and Post-Graduate degree programmes. The 17 participating NLUs in the order of their year of establishment are:

1. National Law School of India University, Bangalore (NLSIU)
2. National Academy of Legal Study and Research the University of Law, Hyderabad (NALSAR)
3. The National Law Institute University, Bhopal(NLIU)
4. The West Bengal National University of Juridical Sciences, Kolkata (WBNUJS)
5. National Law University, Jodhpur (NLUJ)
6. Hidayatullah National Law University, Raipur (HNLU)
7. Gujarat National Law University, Gandhinagar (GNLU)
8. Dr Ram Manohar Lohiya National Law University, Lucknow (RMLNLU)
9. The Rajiv Gandhi National University of Law, Punjab (RGNUL)
10. Chanakya National Law University, Patna (CNLU)
11. The National University of Advanced Legal Studies, Kochi (NUALS)
12. National Law University Odisha, Cuttack (NLUO)
13. National University of Study and Research in Law, Ranchi (NUSRL)
14. National Law University and Judicial Academy, Assam (NLUJAA)
15. Damodaram Sanjivayya National Law University, Visakhapatnam (DSNLU)
16. Tamil Nadu National Law School, Tiruchirappalli (TNNLS)
17. Maharashtra National Law University, Mumbai (MNLU)

Eligibility Criteria:

Interested candidates should fulfill following eligibility criteria:
For U G Programme
Passed 10+2 or equivalent examination with the minimum of :-
(a) Forty-five percent(45%) marks in case of candidates belonging to Unreserved/OBC/(Specially Abled Persons) Categories and
(b) Forty percent(40%) marks in case of candidates belonging to SC/ST Category

=> Candidates who are appearing in the qualifying examination in April/May 2016 are also eligible for appearing in the CLAT-2016 examination. However, they shall be required to produce an evidence of their passing the qualifying examination at the time of admission, failing which they shall lose their right to be considered for admission.

=> No upper age limit is prescribed for appearing in CLAT-2016

For P G Programme
=> LL.B. or equivalent degree in law examination with a minimum of 55% marks in case of Unreserved/OBC/(Specially abled persons) categories and 50% marks in case of SC/ST category

=> Candidates who are appearing in the qualifying examination in March/April 2016 are also eligible for appearing in the CLAT-2016 examination. However, they shall be required to produce evidence of their passing the qualifying examination in the respective National Law Universities at the time of admission failing which they shall lose their right to be considered for admission.

=> No upper age limit is prescribed for appearing in CLAT-2016

Mode of Examination

CLAT is Computer Based Test (CBT).

Application Procedure:

Candidates are advised to refer to official notifications /documents for detailed application procedure. IndCareer.com published details for informational purpose.

Candidates can apply for CLAT-2016 ONLINE only. Candidates are advised to read the instructions carefully before filling the Online Application Form.

CAPS (CLAT Online Application Processing System)
=> The candidates can do most of their interactions with CLAT through the CAPS interface provided at the CLAT-2016 website. Through CAPS, a candidate can register and apply for CLAT- 2016 examination, check the status of the application, download the admit card, know the result
and they can also download the result and score card.

=> An online interface is provided for applicant’s interaction with the CLAT office. With this interface, an applicant can
=> Do Registration using “Register Yourself”.
=> Fill the online application form.
=> Upload photograph, signature, birth certificate and category certificate.
=> Pay the application fee either by ONLINE/OFFLINE mode.
=> Download previous year question papers.
The login to this interface is through your CAPS Registration ID and a CAPS password. The Candidates are advised to keep this information safe and not to disclose it to anyone.

Fee Details:

Application fee is 3,500/- for SC/ST Category and 4,000/- for Unreserved/SAP/OBC/ any other category

Important Dates:

CLAT Important dates section aims to list all important dates such as date of availability of form, last submission date, result date, counselling date, etc.

  • Online registration starts: 01 January 2016
  • Last Date of Submission of Application Form: 31 March 2016
  • CLAT 2016 Admit Card: 15 April 2016
  • Date of Examination CLAT 2016: 08 May 2016 (03.00 PM to 05.00 PM)
  • Declaration of CLAT 2016 Results: 23 May 2016

Selection Process:

Results will be announced on 23 May 2016.

The University is registered with the University Grants Commission, New Delhi, under Section 2(f) of the University Grants Commission Act, 1956. It has the approval of the Bar Council of India for imparting professional legal education.
