    The long cherished desire of agricultural community of mithilanchal (north Bihar) was fulfilled on 18 th August 1960 when the foundation stone of Tirhut College of Agriculture, Dholi in the district Muzaffarpur was laid down by the first Chief Minister of Bihar Late Dr. Srikrishna Singh. The aspirations from the College were deployment of excellent source of agricultural knowledge and transformation of this vast fertile track of land of north Bihar in to granary of India to make the people happier.

    The agricultural college which had featured in the 1903 Pusa scheme but had been nipped in the but, did actually materialized in the sixties as the Tirhut College of Agriculture, Dholi . Now the Rajendra Agricultural University (RAU) has established (1970) itself at Pusa and has become an important landmark in agricultural research & education in the eastern region of the country. The Rajendra Agricultural University now at Pusa has various faculties and constituent colleges namely, Tirhut College of Agriculture (Dholi) Muzaffarpur, Bihar Agricultural college, Sabour (Bhagalpur), Bihar veterinary college, Patna, Sanjay Gandhi Institute of Dairy Technology, Patna, College of Fisheries, Dholi (Muzaffarpur) College of Home Science, College of Agricultural Engineering, College of Basic Sciences & Humanities and a postgraduate Faculty at Pusa In RAU located at Pusa, M.Sc. Degree is awarded in 34 and Ph.D. in 17 disciplines. There is one central Library, one 450 seat capacity of Boy's Hostel, one University Girl's Hostel, a VIP Guest House, Kisan Ghar, IKH Bhavan, Sanchar Kendra, ATIC building, administrative complex, flax house & cluster of residential building. The old imperial time 14 bungalows & other residential quarters are still holding the ground with imperial touch.

    In present Pusa, apart from the University a number of other organization such as Regional Research Station of IARI, New Delhi., Tobacco Research Station of CTRI, Rajamundri,Crop Research programme of ICAR,Kisan Vidyapeeth, Women's Teacher Training School, Campus Public School (affiliated to CBSE), Kendriya Vidyalaya, Rajendra Sishu Sadan, Govt. Basic School, Govt. High School, Govt.Girl's High School, Uma Pandey College, Brahmadeo Rai Sharma Mahila Mahavidyalaya, Community Development Block, a refral hospital, Central Bank of India, Punjab National Bank, Cooperative Training Centre, Post and Telegraph Office, Office of Telecommunication & Pusa Police Station etc. are also functioning and contributing to the alround growth and development of Pusa Estate.

    Pusa has thus faced many ups and down since July, 5 1784 when a stud farm was established through a sanad with the seal of East India Company at a rental fee of 1500 Siccas for the land occupied where captain W. Frazer was the superintendent of the farm. Even today Pusa is contributing a lot to the field of agricultural education and research and holds a bright future.

    EDUCATION

    The college offers a 4 years B.Sc. (Ag.) degree programme with the intake capacity of 50 students. The admission to this programme is through a competitive entrance examination conducted by Bihar Combined Entrance Competitive Examination Board. Out of 50, 8 seats are reserved for the candidates qualify through the entrance examination conducted by Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR), New Delhi. The students are trained in modern methods of crop improvement, production and protection technologies. In order to have all-round development of students, the students are encouraged to participate in different activities like games and sports literary and debating, cultural and dramatic as well as N.S.S. and N.C.C. In addition, the final year students are sent to farmer’ field under Rural Agricultural Work Experience (RAWE) programme for six months. Recently, special courses/ training like plant Health clinic, Mushroom cultivation, Apiculture, Agri-Horti, Floriculture and Nursery Management have been included in the programme to generate ability for self-employment.

    PLANT CLINIC

    Plant clinic programme is managed in the College to train students against plant diseases insect-pests, nutrient deficiencies and physiological disorders, under the supervision of experienced scientists from different departments of the college.

    PHYSICAL FACILITIES

    The college comprises the physical facilities of classrooms, laboratories, and committee room a conference hall and mini-auditorium. Each department in college has well- equipped undergraduate laboratories.

    COMPUTER LABORATORY

    The college has a computer laboratory with a broadband Internet connection, to train the students and exchange of information with over 10 terminals.

    PERSONALITY DEVELOPMENT ACTIVITIES

    The responsibility of an academic institution is not only to provide bookish knowledge but also to care for the all round development of personality of its students. Tirhut College of Agriculture therefore formed different societies like Games and Sports Society, Cultural and Dramatic Society and literary and Debate Society to facilitate participation of students in extra and co-curricular activities. Each society comprises of a president from among teachers and two secretaries from among the students. These societies, in close co-ordination with the University level societies organize intra-college and inter-college level competitions in Games and Sports, Debate etc to select students to represent University at the national level.

    HOSTELS

    Hostel accommodation is available to all the students of the college. Boys and Girls are accommodated in five hostels, of which four are for boys and one for girls. All necessary facilities/amenities for comfortable stay, healthy environment for study and few instruments for entertainment are available in the hostels. Maintenance staffs are deputed for maintaining proper sanitation, security and law and order in the hostels. Each hostel is well connected with telephone. The common room is equipped with television and indoor games facilities. Every hostel subscribes to some popular magazine and newspapers which are placed in the reading rooms.

    LIBRARY

    Since its establishment the Library of the college is catering the needs of students and teachers in addition to the University Library at Pusa. College library in is extending reading materials for all basic subjects in agriculture as well as on applied aspects like Biotechnology, Organic farming, Entrepreneurship development, Psychology, Sociology etc. The library has recently procured CD-ROM database of references.
