The roots of Azim Premji University lie in the learning and experience of a decade of work in elementary education by Azim Premji Foundation. The University is one of the key responses to the constraints and challenges confronting the education and development sectors in India. It is also the direct result of a purposeful philanthropic initiative and which by definition is not-for-profit in its orientation.

The establishment of Azim Premji University is an important initiative in this integrated strategy especially in the area of talent development and knowledge creation through an institutionalized approach. The key strands of the University’s work include:

Degree Programmes: To develop committed and capable education and development professionals.
Continuing Education: Capacity building of existing talent in government and partners.
Research: To develop high quality, grounded and relevant research for knowledge creation.
