Concealment of Material facts in College Prospectus

Many universities have mission statements, which pertain to educating, bettering the community and serving its students. The basic goal of university formation is to monitor the work of College, educational institutes, infrastructure, facilities provided to students by management and conducting a smooth examination and accordingly distributing the mark sheet and degree certificate to successful candidates and look after paramount activities called research. So, Universities exist to create, share and teach knowledge.

Other day, in one of the advertisement I read under facilities that college has regular faculty. I really surprised and laugh, if this is going to be facility what else facility Can College provides to the students when regular faculty is must as per UGC act and State government.

College Prospectus gives a Bird's-Eye view of college to student who is thinking to enroll for admission for learning and earning degree for better prosperous in life. But today, 99% of colleges is not providing a complete knowledge or information about college in its prospectus then how a student will be able to discover whether colleges has full time principal, regular faculty availability for the course in which he is going to take admission, total vacancy of faculty for the said course (it will give a crystal clear picture to students), total result of the course of last 3 years of the college and that of university, track record of placement of last 3 years, NAAC/AICTE Accredited etc. (A copy of report should be published)

In this circumstances student easily get convinced during counseling session for admission in the course by admission councilor by suggesting that they have full time faculty and good placement record of past etc.

When college posts the merit student news of their college in the paper, Media should ask the college other details like total number of students enrolled for the said course and total result of the course and that should be published. Because I knew there are many colleges whose total result of passing students is mere 5-10% of in-take capacity but they post only their merit student which portrait a wrong picture to the society.

So dear students, now-a-days you need to check-up following major things,
* Regular Principle
* Regular Staff for the said Course
* Lab facility, if any required depending upon course selection
* Result of last 3 Years for the said course of College and that of University
* Placement record etc.

In the age of Internet and RTI Act, concealing such information is not good practice. If the above details were included in the prospectus then many students will get clear picture regarding the college and the department/Course he is going to select. In fact University should make it mandatory to every college to include such details in the prospectus’s and college web-sites. This will boost the morale of candidate regarding his choice and it will benefit the society in-large and stop the mal-practices adopted by the college.
