160 students placed recently by American Culinary and Cruise Line Academy on leading American and European Cruise Liners

American Culinary and Cruise Line Academy (ACCLA) saw an exceptionally good placement season for the batch 2015-16 recently with over 160 students who completed the cruise line specific culinary course being placed in some of the most prominent American and European Cruise Ships. These include the Norwegian Cruise Liner, Regent Seven Seas, Oceania and Thompson.

Cruise line recruiters were impressed with the students’ culinary skills, cruise line specific knowledge, domain expertise, and confidence and disciplined manner in which the students of ACCLA conducted themselves. The students picked up a hefty salary package of 800 US dollars (approximately Rs. 50000) per month.

Hospitality careers are skill based and there is a need for one to learn and acquire expertise in the skill through training and work experience. That’s where ACCLA comes in. Said Madhav Punekar, Principal, ACCLA, “One of the most sought after job opportunities for a section of the Goan youth are positions onboard cruise liners. ACCLA trains youngsters for the rigours and demands which are required to occupy such positions onboard luxury ships.”

Career opportunities in the hospitality field onboard cruise lines are mainly available in food and beverage service (F&B), housekeeping and food production (galley) areas. However it is the food production department which offers the most lucrative positions. The galley offers a host of opportunities such as assistant cook, cook, semi chef de partie, chef de parties, sous chef, executive chef, pastry chef, bakery and patisserie chef and more.

ACCLA, is a unique culinary academy, which specializes in professional culinary education and training specializing in the field of cruise line culinary programmes. The campus has a state-of- the-art kitchen, which is designed like the galley (kitchens onboard cruise liners), equipped with latest equipment, so that the students get a complete experience and feel of working in a galley onboard a cruise liner.

The program provides participants an in-depth exposure to various facets of the industry. Course curriculum includes academic learning, practical sessions and professional internships.  The internship component apart from serving as an effective training element is also the key factor for the eventual placement of the student.
