Panaji, April 2016: The year long Golden Jubilee celebrations to commemorate 50 illustrious years of imparting holistic education in Goa at S.S Dempo College of Commerce and Economics, came to an end with an apt closing event. The college brought down the curtains on the 50 year celebrations with a ceremonial event at Clube Tennis De Gasper Dias, Miramar on 30th April, 2016 at 9.30am. To mark the closing ceremony, Prof. Sanjay Deshmukh, Ph.D., Honorable Vice Chancellor, University of Mumbai visited S. S Dempo College as the Chief Guest and delivered the keynote address. Prof. Y. Y Reddy, Registrar, Goa University, Prof. Bhaskar Nayak, Director, Higher Education, Government of Goa, Pallavi Dempo, Trustee, Dempo Charities trust,
Yatish Dempo, Trustee, Dempo Charities Trust and other dignitaries were also present.
Pallavi Dempo, Trustee, Dempo Charities Trust while delivering the opening remarks on the closing ceremony of S. S Dempo College of Commerce and Economics said “the celebration of this Golden Jubilee Year has indeed been a satisfying one for the management of the college. Enthusiastic planning, preparations and detailed executions has marked each event that the college has organized. I would like to congratulate the Principal, teachers, administrative and support staff and also the students that have made this Golden Jubilee celebration a grand success.”
An influencer in the field of education, Prof Sanjay Deshmukh, Ph.D., Honorable Vice Chancellor, University of Mumbai thanked the college for the invitation and expressed his gratitude for being able to be part of the closing ceremony of the Golden Jubilee Celebrations. “I would like to congratulate the editors and team who have put together efforts behind the annual college magazine ‘Dempoite’ which was released today. On
this day, we celebrate the coming together of leadership and learning.” said Prof. Sanjay. While delivering his keynote address he spoke on ‘Higher education in India: Opportunities and Challenges’. In his speech he commented on how education in India should be focused on reaching the ‘unreachable’.
Dr. Radhika Nayak, Principal, S.S. Dempo College, while delivering the vote of thanks said, “It is a very emotional moment for me today because we had planned this year with a lot of love and care. And as we bring down the curtains on the Golden Jubilee celebrations, this is the year which I will always cherish as being a special in my entire career. S. S. Dempo College of Commerce & Economics was founded in the year 1966 and is celebrating 50 of imparting education to the students of the state. This college was the first institution to offer higher education in commerce, which was then established in the newly liberated Union Territory of Goa, Daman and Diu. Generations of young educated minds have passed out through its doors and reflect the excellence of education they have attained in the institution. To commemorate the Golden Jubilee Year, the management of S. S. Dempo College of Commerce & Economics has meticulously planned out a number of activities through the year. The college lays equal emphasis on the all-round development of the personality of the students who enter its doors.”
Amongst the myriad activities held this academic year was the one-of- its-kind Guru Srujan inter-collegiate cultural festival organised specifically for teachers. An international conference was also organised to discuss the opportunities and obstacles that India faces on the path to becoming a global superpower. Union Railway Minister Suresh Prabhu delivered the keynote address at the conference. K-OSS 2016, Inspirit, Bizquest and Ranbhoomi 6.0 constituted the college student events for the Golden Jubilee year. On the sporting front, the college organised the Golden Jubilee cup – an intercollegiate football tournament and the 13th Joint Sports Meet. And for the past- pupils, an alumni meet was held at Kala Academy which relived the glorious years that Dempo college of Commerce and Economics has experienced.
