~Goa’s premier Hospitality Management Institute, VM Salgaocar Institute of International Hospitality Education conducted an HIV/AIDS workshop for its students~
V.M. Salgaocar Institute of International Hospitality Education (VMSIIHE) conducted a workshop on HIV/AIDS and related topics like for their students at the institutes’ campus in Raia, recently. The workshop was conducted by the members of the NGO Udant who did a splendid job in creating awareness among the student community, about the effects of being an HIV patient, the role of the media in the fight against HIV/AIDS, the issues around ‘stigmatizing language’ and controversial HIV/AIDS-related claims in a very interactive manner.
The workshop was formally inaugurated by Dr. Abish Naik, a recognised doctor at the Primary Health Center, Loutolim who then invited the team of Udant to take over. The team was led by Dominic Noronha, Project Co-ordinator at Udant who addressed the students during the course of the workshop and was assisted by Anita Pereira in the same.
With an aim to develop confidence and skills to communicate more effectively about HIV/AIDS and other related issues and understand the significance of being an HIV/AIDS infected person, they conducted various activities like, practical exercises and role plays that revolved around creating situations and stories on how to overcome and minimize the agony of an HIV infected patient.
The workshop was a great learning experience for the students of VMSIIHE.
