Dr. Shashi Tharoor presents Goa Institute of Management with the IMC Award 2013

GIM receives Silver award for excellence in ‘Innovation in Curriculum’ for its ‘Give Goa Initiative’

Panaji, August 12th 2013: Adding yet another feather to its hat, Goa Institute of Management (GIM), one of the premier B-Schools in India, received the Silver award at the first Indian Management Conclave(IMC) Awards 2013. The IMC Awards were held recently as part of the 4th Indian Management Conclave 2013 organized by MBAUniverse.com in Delhi.

The IMC award has been conferred to GIM for excellence in ‘Innovation in Curriculum’ for its ‘Give Goa Initiative’.  This award adds recognition to the most successful initiatives by management institutes which enhance the value of their MBA programs. Dr. Tharoor, Minister of State for HRD presented the IMC 2013 awards to the winners during the award ceremony attended by over 250 MBA Educators including Directors from B-schools across India, China, USA, Singapore and Canada. On receiving the award, Dr. Sunil Rai, Director, GIM said, “It’s a proud moment for all of us at the institute to be recognized for the efforts put in by our professors and students. At GIM we want our students to develop social responsibility as part of their preparation for becoming responsible managers in firms. Responsible managers and leaders need to ensure that their decisions have benefits for their organization as well as for the society”. The Give Goa project provides a unique platform to students who work with NGO’s or other organizations which are committed to give back to the society through rigorous CSR activities.  

Speaking at the award ceremony, Dr Shashi Tharoor said that B-schools should learn from each other and adopt the best practices to enhance the value of MBA education in the country. He hoped that IMC Awards will go a long way in helping B-schools learn best practices in management education. He further added, “I hope IMC Awards, based on a thorough research and documentation of unique initiatives in management education, will help B-schools to enhance quality of their MBA programmes.”

The IMC Awards instituted by MBAUniverse.com received more than 50 nominations from B-schools and MBA University departments across India.  The eminent jury included Dr. Devi Singh, Director, IIM Lucknow; Fr. E. Abraham S.J., Director, XLRI, Jamshedpur; Dr Pritam Singh, DG, IMI & Former Director IIM Lucknow; Dr Rajan Saxena, Vice Chancellor, NMIMS University, Mumbai; Dr Debashis Chatterjee, Director, IIM Kozhikode and Dr. Sesha Iyer, Director, S P Jain Institute of Management & Research, Mumbai. The jury shortlisted 12 finalists who has to present their cases during the 2 day IMC Conference 2013.The jury comprised of leading academicians including Vice Chancellors, Director of IIMs and other leading Business schools.
