Winner of TED Prize 2013 Prof. Sugata Mitra to speak at Chowgule College

Panaji,March 2013: As part of the ongoing Golden Jubilee celebrations, Parvatibai Chowgule College of Arts and Science, Margao, will be hosting Professor Sugata Mitra who will deliver a talk to the faculty members and staff on the ‘Future of Learning’. Professor Sugata Mitra is in Goa to speak to teachers at St Joseph’s High School, Vasco and Chowgule College.

Best known for his ‘Hole in the Wall’ experiment, Professor Sugata Mitra recently won the one million dollar TED Prize for the year 2013. TED is a nonprofit devoted to ideas worth spreading. It started out as a conference bringing together people from three worlds: technology, entertainment, design. Dr. Sugata Mitra is a long-term educationist and a scientist of international repute. He has over 25 inventions and first-time applications in the areas of Cognitive Science, Information Science and Education Technology, to his credit. Dr. Mitra has been the Chief Scientist at NIIT and is currently Professor of Educational Technology at Newcastle University, UK.

In an experiment conducted first in 1999, known as the Hole in the Wall (HIW), a computer was placed in a kiosk created within a wall in a slum at Kalkaji, Delhi and children were allowed to use it freely. The experiment aimed at proving that kids could be taught by computers very easily without any formal training. The experiment has since been repeated at many places. Hole in the Wall today, has more than 23 kiosks in rural India.

Dr. Mitra is a winner of "Man of Peace Award" from Together for Peace Foundation, USA, and "Social Innovation Award" from Institute of Social Inventions, UK. He was also conferred the "Dewang Mehta Award" by the Government of India in recognition for his work related to the Hole-in-the-Wall project.

Professor Sugata Mitra will deliver a talk on 22nd March 2013 at the Chowgule College auditorium.

Chowgule College announces its 5th edition of Open Day on May 10, 2015

With the exam results being announced, students are making a bee line for admissions to colleges. In order to help students make a better choice for their future, Chowgule College, an Autonomous institute will be organizing its annual Chowgule College Open Day for students and parents. The 5th edition of Chowgule College Open Day will be held at two locations this year. On 2nd and 3rd May, Chowgule College will be part of EduNext at Kala Academy in Panjim and on 10th May it will be held at the Chowgule College campus.

Certificate Course in Business English at Chowgule College

March, 2014: Sound like a professional at a corporate firm by taking up a course in Business English. The Student Support Services at Chowgule College will be conducting a coaching programme titled 'Business English Certificate' (BEC). This initiative of Chowgule College is in collaboration with British Council, Mumbai which conducts examinations of the same on behalf of Cambridge University’s ESOL.

Chowgule College to Begin Aptitude Test Classes

Panjim 13th Chowgule College of Arts Science, Margao is conducting computerized psychometric test (aptitude test) followed by career guidance and counseling. The aptitude test is developed by Jnana Prabhodini’s Institute of Psychology, a renowned Institute in Pune. The aptitude testing and career guidance is open to those above 15 years. The testing and guidance will be held at Chowgule College all of November. The career guidance and counseling will help students to make informed choices about their careers and get various issues clarified to their satisfaction.

India's ad wizard Agnello Dias speaks at Chowgule College Founder’s Day

Panaji, 27th August 2013: As a tribute to its founder Vishwasrao Chowgule, Chowgule College celebrated Founder Day at the college campus. This year the college hosted ad wizard Agnello Dias, Chairman of Taproot India, the country’s most awarded advertising agency at the college campus to interact with students.
