IIM Ahmedabad director likely to get 1 Crore package

Indian Institute of Management, Ahmedabad (IIM-A) has planned to increase the yearly package of its Director to Rs 1 Crore, a five fold increase from Rs 20 lakh. The new package will help in attracting the best minds to head the institute. Board of Governors (BOG) have already made up their minds to give approval to increasing package hike.

Samir Barua's term ended in November, 2012 but has been given extension till next director is appointed.

"There have been a lot of deliberations on increasing the salary package of the director to Rs 1 crore annually, a five-fold rise from the current annual package of Rs 20 lakh. However, there is still no unanimity on whether to make the appointment from outside or from within the institute,” said a source close to the development.

FORE School ties up with European Institute for Asian Studies Luxembourg, for collaborative research

FORE School of Management, New Delhi and European Institute for Asian Studies EIAS, Luxembourg signed an MOU for collaborative research, publication, exchange of resources for research projects in the areas of corporate social responsibility, social policy, environment, international cooperation, and development. The MOU was signed by Dr. Jitendra K Das, Director, FORE School of Management, New Delhi and Mr. Axel Goethals, CEO, European Institute for Asian Studies (EIAS).

IIT Kharagpur plans to offer MBBS courses

IIT Kharagpur is planning to offer Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) courses. IIT Kharagpur will be the first IIT to venture into medical education. The Institute has allocated 3 acres land for the 400-bedded super-speciality hospital named as Dr B C Roy Institute of Medical Science & Research. This institute will be ready by the end of 2017. The hospital will also work on biomedical, clinical and translational research. Drug design and delivery will be other key research areas to which the hospital will contribute.

IIM Shillong Placements: Highest Package offered, 21 LPA, Offers of 15 LPA or more up by 30%

IITs to increase fees by 80% in 2013

Indian Institute of Technology (IITs) is all set to increase the yearly fees by 80% for undergraduate courses. The fees will be increased to RS 90,000 annually from Rs 50,000. The final decision will be taken by the IIT Council on Monday. This hike was recommended by IIT Standing Committee. A government panel has recommended to increase the fees to Rs 2 - 2.5 lacs yearly. HRD Ministry has supported the idea to increase the fees of IITs to match those of Indian Institute of Management (IIMs). IIMs presently charge around 3 times that of IITs.
