Central Government has decided to cut the budget of Higher Education by 13% this fiscal year owing to fund crunch. This move by the government is likely to hit two most important projects enacted by Central Government - newly established IITs and IIMs and National Mission on Education through Information and Communication Technology (NMEICT). Aakash Tablet was part of NMEICT.

"The Planning Commission has informed the HRD ministry officially about the cut in the budget," informed one of the officials of Ministry for Human Resource and Development (MHRD)

The Aakash project has total budget of Rs 700 crore - but will be cut by half. And this will certainly affect the NMEICT mission.
