Kapil Sibal: Polytechnics can generate skilled workforce

While speaking at the second national convention of State Boards of Technical Education on 'Polytechnic Education and Achievements and Challenges Ahead', Union Minister for HRD Kapil Sibal told that Polytechnics can help in curbing the shortfall of skilled manpower in the country.

"Polytechnics can generate skilled manpower for the country if they tie-up with Industry to upgrade their syllabus," said Kapil Sibal.

"We can get skilled workforce from polytechnic institutes as they are the future of our country. Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu, Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh were doing well with regard to polytechnic education," he said.

"In Bihar, there are 12 government polytechnics and seven unaided institutions. Whereas in Uttar Pradesh, there are 17 government and 186 unaided polytechnics. Compared to the population of these two states, the number is much low," he said.

Sibal as Deemed universities to adopt Common Entrance Test

Kapil Sibal, Union Human Resource and Development Minister, has requested the Deemed Universities to adopt the "common entrance test".

IIT Kanpur to hold its own entrance in 2013

In a clear case of revolt against Kapil Sibal's decision to merge IIT Joint Entrance Exam (IIT-JEE) with All India Engineering Entrance Examination (AIEEE), Indian Institute of (IIT) Kanpur has announced that it will conduct its own entrance exam in 2013. "The recent IIT Council proposal on admissions to IITs is academically and methodically unsound and in violation of the Institutes of Technology Act (1961) and IIT Kanpur Ordinances (Ordinance 3.2 (Admissions)," said the IIT Kanpur committee members.

Kapil Sibal: Broadband can make education more accessible

Union minister for Human Resource Development, Kapil Sibal stressed that Broadband can revolutionize the education system. but for this to happen, the Broadband itself has to be affordable. Though we already have 3G and many operators are rolling out 4G services, they are still not affordable for comman man and thus affecting the students from weaker section of society. "Fast, affordable broadband can connect children who do not have proximate access to decent education resources to world-class online resources," Kapil Sibal said

Kapil Sibal assured free education to disabled children

Kapil Sibal, the Human Resource Minister, has assured that children with all kinds of disability will be provided free and compulsory education, either in school or at home, under the Right to Education Act. "Children with all kinds of disability will be protected under the Act," HRD Minister Kapil Sibal said, moving amendments to the Right of Children to Free and Compulsory Education Act, 2009 in the Lok Sabha. Children suffering from all kinds of disabilities such as autism, cerebral palsy and mental retardation are covered under Right to Education Act

Indian HRD minister to bring in Educational Reforms

HRD Minister Kapil Sibal is going to present bill for bringing few reforms in the higher education sector. Previously the bill was opposed by the opposition and the ruling party. Kapil sibal has planned to call a meeting with the MP's of other political parties to discuss education reforms so that there was no delay in passing of the bill in the parliament and to avoid any opposition.
