Mathematics Professor from Jamia Millia Islamia gets "Woman of the Year 2011 Award"

Noted Professor from Jamia Millia Islamia, Prof Kum Kum Dewan of Department of Mathematics has been conferred the "Woman of the Year 2011" Award for outstanding pursuits and achievements in the field of Education instituted by American Biographical Institute, United States of America. Prof Dewan has been associated with Jamia Millia Islamia for almost 40 years.

Speaking on her achievement, Prof. Dewan said "This has all been possible because of the facilities and resources provided to me by the University from time to time and the support and motivation given to me at my hour of need, for which I shall always remain obliged."

She was also selected International Woman of the Year 1997-98 in recognition of the services of Mathematics by the International Biographical Centre of Cambridge, England.

She has published extensively and has over 100 published research papers to her credit. She has written three books also.

    Dr Kiran Mazumdar-Shaw has been appointed as the next Chairperson of Indian Institute of Management Bangalore (IIMB) Board of Governors. She takes over from Mukesh Ambani. Mukesh Ambani has been chairperson for last 8 years. "Kiran Mazumdar-Shaw, Chairman and Managing Director, Biocon Limited, has been a member of the IIM-B Board for the past several years. She is the first woman Chairperson of any IIM Board", the B-school said in a release.

    Dr Manmohan Singh, layed the foundation stone for Global Center for Nuclear Energy Partnership in Delhi. Global Nuclear Education Center will have five schools for research into advanced nuclear technology, training and education, international seminars, and courses. Subject areas will include nuclear energy systems, radiological safety, applications of radioisotopes and radiation technologies, and nuclear security.

    Bangalore's Jain University won againsts the hosts Jamia Millia by two runs to win the Toyota University T20 championship on Sunday night. Jain University's 19-year-old Shreyas Gopal's all rounde performance got them the coveted trophy. Gopal scored unbeaten 83 and took 2 wickets while bowling leg-spin. At the end Shreyas Gopal was declared as Man-of-the-match. 5 runs were needed in the last over by Jamia to win, but they could only score 2 runs.
