Sri Thyagaraja Government College Of Music Dance, Hyderabad was established in the year 1952,
Music and dance are integral part of Indian culture.To preserve and propagate Indian music and dance which includes both Karnatic and Hindustani music, and dance forms like Kathak, Bharathnatyam, Kuchipudi, Perini, the erstwhile government of united Andhra Pradesh started colleges,schools of music and dance. One of the oldest colleges in this category is Sri Thyagaraja Government college of music and dance. The college was established in year 1952.The college located in Ramkoti, Hyderabad. It is spread over very large area with numerous classrooms. The college has completed 65 years of service successfully. This college offers both south indian and north Indian styles of music and dance. There are very few colleges in India which offer both south Indian and north Indian styles of music and dance. The college has been served by great artists as principals. Seventeen people have worked as principals so far and the founder principal was Sri G.N. Dantale. Some of the legendary artists who worked as principals are G.N. Dantale, Dr. Sri Nookala Chinna Satyanarayana, Padmasri Kumari Srirangam Gopalaratnam. Some of the famous artists who worked as lecturers in our college are Sri AkellaMallikarjunaSarma, Sri Nedunuri Krishna Murthy, Hyderbad Sisters Kumari Lalitha and Smt. Haripriya, Sri Vasa Padmanabham, Dr. Uma Ramarao. During intial years the college was under the control of Technical Education Department. Later the college came under the control Department of Cultural Affairs which currently is called as Department of Language and Culture.
College Vision
The Department of Language and Culture, Govt. of Telangana, is under the leadership of Director Sri Mamidi Harikrishna, who is proactively planning and conducting innovative cultural events such as Kalaradhana, folk festivals, cultural events in various temples of Telangana and cultural events outside Telangana to put Telangana state on cultural map of India. Vision of the college is to nurture top quality students in different disciplines like Carnatic vocal, Hindustani vocal, Kathak, Perini, Tabla, Mridangam, Veena, Sitar etc.
