Tanvi Aggarwal, 19, was happy when she received a call from her school principal early Friday morning, congratulating her for an outstanding performance in the CBSE Class XII results. She thought she had topped her school — after all, “I have always topped school examinations since Class VI and was expecting good results”.
Then it hit home, like a thunderbolt: she was the all-India topper.
Her score: 492 marks out of 500, or 98.4 per cent.
“I could not believe my ears for a while,” the Commerce student from Apeejay School, Faridabad, said. Despite the burst of giggles, it was evident even after a few hours that the news was still sinking in.
Aggarwal got a perfect ton in three subjects — Mathematics, Accounts and Economics — and 99 and 93 in Business Studies and English, respectively. “Business Studies is a theoretical subject and it’s difficult to score a perfect 100,” she said, “but now that I have missed it by a mark, I wish I could see where I lost it.”
