Guwahati, May 23: The biggest education fair in eastern India — Eduquest — that gets under way at the Tarun Ram Phookan Indoor Stadium here from tomorrow, is set to provide the students of the Northeast an array of options for a dream career in a premier institution.
The two-day fair, organised by The Telegraph and Saraswati Online.com, will witness participation of top-notch educational institutions from India and abroad.
Eminent litterateur Mamoni Raisom Goswami will inaugurate the fair at 10am on Sunday. The fair will remain open from 10am to 8pm on both the days.
“With the results of Classes X and XII board examinations being published, Eduquest will provide the perfect platform for students of the region to select the right educational institution to pursue higher education,” an organiser of the fair said.
“Improvement in the pass percentage in Class XII final examination, held under the Central Board of Secondary Education for the Guwahati region, is a plus point for the fair. We are expecting a huge turnout of students and parents at the fair,” the organiser said.
Altogether, 75 institutes will take part in the fair and all arrangements have been made to conduct it smoothly.
On an average, over 20,000 students travel to places like Delhi, Pune and Bangalore for higher studies every year.
Rakesh Sarma, a student who appeared for the Higher Secondary final examination from Cotton College, said he was excited about the event.
“On the Internet we do get information but not answers to specific queries. Such a fair will give us an opportunity to meet officials of the leading institutions directly and get authentic information. I plan to visit the fair and find out what’s best for me,” he said.
The organisers said a counselling session by experts and on-the-spot enrolments would help provide detailed information and guide the students on a suitable career.
He said the students after getting information about the various educational institutions could decide and select the right institutions before leaving their homes.
The State Bank of India and Allahabad Bank will provide educational loans to students at lower interest rates.
The fair will provide spot admissions in courses like MBBS, engineering, biotechnology, BBA, MCA, BCA, and the like.
After its stint here, the fair will move to the Meghalaya capital where it will be held at Shillong Club on May 26 and 27. Thirty-six institutions will participate in the Shillong fair.
Winje G. Momin, a teacher of P.N. Chaudhuri Higher Secondary School, Rilbong, said the fair would provide an ideal opportunity for students to know more about the educational institutions they opt for.
“In a state like Meghalaya, where options are limited, this is a good way of helping the students, as many of them are confused about their future course of education”, Momin said.
