KOLKATA, 22 MAY: The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) declared the results of the class XII examinations today.
The overall pass percentage in CBSE Class XII examinations from the Allahabad region, that includes schools of West Bengal, has slightly dipped this year.
The Allahabad region recorded a pass percentage of 74.56 per cent, 0.77 per cent lower than the last year.
The overall pass percentage at the all-India level has, however, increased from 80.91 to 81 per cent this year.
The principals of city schools felt that the pass percentage had dipped as the commerce students particularly failed to well.
There has been a considerable dip in the commerce aggregate.
Schools blamed the accountancy paper, which students found difficult to answer, for the dip in marks. Also, students have been marked poorly in the language (English) paper, schools alleged.
Most students of schools including including Birla High (Boys) and Birla High (Girls) scored between 70 and 80 in English, which has in turn dipped the total percentage.
However, Mrs Anindita Chatterjee, principal, Bharatiya Vidya Bhawan said students from all three streams ~ humanities, commerce and science ~ had performed well in the selection exams, but in the boards only the science stream did exceptionally well.
“The overall results have been very good. Even the student who had ranked last has scored 68 per cent,” said Mrs Chatterjee. Many students from the school has featured in the unofficial merit list this year.
Meanwhile, girls outshone boys in the overall results. Girls registered a pass percentage of 82.15 against 77.41 of boys. From the Allahabad region, 2.33 per cent girls scored above 90 per cent marks while only 1.65 per cent boys managed to score over 90 per cent. Apart from this, a total of 1,61,139 girls scored above 80 per cent marks in the examination. Last year the figure was 1,42,532.
The compartmental examinations will be held 18 July onwards. Candidates have been asked to submit their applications for sitting the compartmental examinations to their school principals. The list of compartmental candidates should reach the respective regional offices of CBSE by 23 June.
