The National Handicapped Finance and Development Corporation ( NHDFC ) announced 1500 scholarship for disabled students. This was announced during the Foundation day of IGNOU ( Indira Gandhi National Open University ). Under this scheme a students with hearing and vision problem will also be provided help. The scholarship scheme is available from the current academic year.
It includes total fee reimbursement, books, stationery allowance and maintenance allowance. This scholarship scheme is also applicable to distance education universities like Ignou. It will also benefit PhD and Mphil students.

The Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU) will award Rajiv Gandhi International Prize for Technology in Education to Azim Premji Foundation on September 28, 2011. The award will be presented by the Union Minister for Human Resource and Development and Communications and IT, Mr. Kapil Sibal to its founder Mr Azim premji, chairman of Wipro.
