India, Britain to ink deal on higher education

New Delhi : India and the UK will be signing a 5 million pound-deal this week to collaborate in the field of education. A key part of British Pime Minister David Cameron’s India visit, the collaboration facilitated through the UK-India Education and Research Initiative (UKIERI) will see the two nations joining hands to set up new institutes, drive in skill development programmes, hold leadership programmes and work on quality assurance of courses offered to students.

RMI mulls tie up with other colleges for design programmes

Having launched its seventh centre of the country in Ahmedabad, Raffles Millennium International (RMI), Asia- Pacific's premium design institute, is now planning to tie up with other educational institutions including engineering colleges for part time programmes on design.

"There is a need for design education in several verticals including industrial design and auto design in India. We plan to tie-up with educational institutions like engineering colleges for offering part time courses in design," said Harpreet Singh, executive director, Educomp Raffles Higher Education Ltd.

India to Provide $35 Computing Device to Students

India announced on Thursday a US$35 computing and access device for students of colleges and universities, according to the country's Ministry of Human Resource Development.

The price of the device is expected to gradually drop to $20 and later to $10, said a statement distributed through the country's Press Information Bureau. The government did not, however, indicate when the device would be available, or its specifications.

Bharti Wal-Mart training centre comes up in Delhi

In a bid to bridge the gap between demand and supply of skilled manpower in modern retail, Bharti Wal-Mart, a joint venture between Bharti Enterprises and global retail giant Wal-Mart Stores Inc, has opened a training centre in Delhi. Located at the government-run Veer Savarkar Basic Training Centre on Pusa Road, the centre will provide free retail sector-focussed vocational training to candidates.

A memorandum of agreement (MoA) was signed in this regard on July 22 between Bharti Wal-Mart and the Delhi government's Department of Training and Technical Education.
