Pratham Launches Anti-Illiteracy Initiative with MIT

MILPITAS, Calif. – Pratham, India’s largest child literacy organization, has launched a new initiative with the Massachusetts Institute of Technology to look at the role of Indian mothers in their children’s education.

Pratham, together with MIT’s Abdul Latif Jameel Poverty Action Lab – known as JPAL — launched the project in July to research how a mother’s own literacy, education and home environment can impact her children’s learning.

Edify to set up schools in WB, NE

Kolkata: Edify Education is planning to start seven schools in West Bengal and India’s North East region.

Aiming to provide ‘international’ education, the company is assessing locations like Kolkata, Guwahati, Siliguri, Burdwan, Durgapur, Asansol and Kharagpur in Eastern region of India to set-up schools on franchisee model.

Exploring franchising options in the region, Edify Education has already established two ‘Edify Kids’ schools at Salt Lake and Nagerbazar in Kolkata for academic year 2010-11.

3-yr 'hands-on' syllabus for rural medicos ready

NEW DELHI: The syllabus for the three-year course for rural medical practitioners is ready. It promises to do away with what's "unnecessary" in the four-and-a-half-year MBBS course and prepare "hands-on" doctors at the primary level.

The course, called the Bachelor of Rural Health Care (BRHC), is expected to change the landscape of medical education and delivery of health care and hopefully, solve the shortage of doctors in rural areas, home to 70% of India's population.

The dengue scare has spread so much that sources told CNN-IBN that the family members of the athletes are unwilling to come to Delhi.
Sources have told CNN-IBN that missions abroad have been writing to the health ministry saying that not just foreign tourists, the families of most international athletes are not willing to come to India.
