KLE Society's P.C. Jabin Science Science College is the first single faculty Science College started in 1957 to impart need based and moral education to the students of North Karnatak. This College is named after Late Shri Parappa Channppa Jabin of Hubli. The Principal Donor is Smt. Channamma Parappa Jabin. Our College is recognized under 2F and 12B of the UGC act in June 1966. It is the first College to be accredited with Four stars by NAAC among the colleges affiliated to Karnatak University, Dharwad. Now it is recognized as a “Lead College” of Dharwad district by the Commissionerate of Collegiate Education, Govt. of Karnataka. It is a matter of pride that our College has been recommended by Karnatak University, Dharwad to the U.G.C. , New Delhi as “College with Potential for Excellence” under the Xth plan and also for the College with Autonomous status. It is also recognized as “Lead College” for TQM and HRD by Commissioner of Collegiate Education, Bangalore and Leader College, quality consortium.
The Institution has kept up high tradition of quality education with a student strength of 800+800 at PUC I and II year, 678 in B.Sc. Degree and 66 in B.C.A. course. The results of the college at PUC II and B.Sc. III are always more than 75% bagging distinctions and ranks. It is always more than the passing percentage of the PUC Board and University. The B.C.A. results are 100% every year right from the year of inception.
As per the Karnataka Government Policy, the PUE Section is bifurcated from Composite Degree College in September 2001 and the now Pre-University College is renamed as “K.L.E. society's Parappa Channappa Jabin Pre-University College of Science, Hubli” in September 2001.
Our College is functioning with 52 highly qualified and experienced teachers. 13 members of our staff have been awarded Ph.D and 4 staff members have been awarded M.Phil.
The College library has a collection of more than 40,000 books of all subjects, 36 scientific journals and periodicals. The entire library is in the process of computerization.
The college has well equipped sports infrastructure for both indoor and outdoor games. The new and full-fledged Gymkhana building of the college is functioning with Multy-Gym facility. Our students have achieved excellence in National and International sports activities.

Introduction
Establishment of Department with brief History
K.L.E society's P.C. Jabin Science College is the single faculty science college, started in the year 1957 to impart need based and moral education to the students of north Karnataka. In the year 1971 Department of Zoology was bifurcated and started functioning independently. Prof. C.J. Savanurmath was the founder Head of the Department and successfully led the Department till 1979. During his tenure, the Departments saw a phenomenal academic development and a well set museum was established.
Infrastructure of the Department
Today the department has well organized infrastructure with highly qualified and experienced staff, well equipped Laboratories, a spacious staff Room, a classic Museum, the Computer Room, a Store Room and an Administrative office Room. The Departmental Library is also set and books are issued to the students regularly.
SPECIAL FEATURES OF THE DEPARTMENT
The department museum has a rare and precious Zoological treasure, a mounted life size elephant skeleton. It is the first of its kind in Karnataka state and fourth in the country.

Department of Chemistry
P.C.Jabin Science College , Hubli has been established as a single faculty Science Institution in 1957 by Karnataka Lingayat Education Society, Belgaum . Chemistry as one of the major and minor subjects has been introduced in the same year.
Since the inception of chemistry department and chemistry as one of the optional subjects, the department is showing exponential progress rate. At present there are three well equipped laboratories with capacity of 60 students in each. There is a newly established research laboratory having highly sophisticated modern equipments like U.V/Vivisible spectroscopy, digital balances, digital melting point/boiling point apparatus, rotary vaccum evaporators, T.L.C etc. useful for the students and staff continuing the research work.
During this academic year are there 290 students studying in B.Sc I/III/V semester classes with chemistry as one of the optional subjects. There are eight experiences and devoted faculty members with four Ph.D holders and some staff members have registered for Ph.D degree recently.
Department is involved in the extension research work. Our faculty, Dr. B.N.Vasudevnaik guided five students for their M.Phil. degree.
The department has started C.O.P namely the certificate course in Hospital Waste Disposal Management, with U.G.C assistance.
The department conducts Annual Industrial/Study tours for students to various important industries to get first hand information of projects. The department of chemistry organizes various seminars/ work-shops every year for the benefit of students and staff members. During 2008-09 a state level work-shop on Microscale experimentation in Chemistry for College Teacher's was organized in the college, on 7 th March 2009. About 75 delegated participated, emphasising the economical use of chemicals & pollution control.
The members of staff have published many research papers in National/International journals and have attended various National/International Seminars/Workshops.
A Research paper entilled “Synthesis Spectroscopic and thermal studies of some bivalent transition metal complexes with the hydrazones” authored by Dr. M.I.Sambrani and co-workers, Dr. V.M.Naik and Dr. N.B.Mallur, was published in Indian Journal of chemistry vol. 47. A December 2008.

Department of Physics & Electronics
The Department of Physics has been established in the year 1957 and the department of Electronics was started in the year 1985 with a prime objective of imparting basic science education among the rural backward areas of this part. Physics was introduced as one of the major subject in 1962.
The department focused on training the students in acquiring basic knowledge of Physics & Electronics. It offers undergraduate course in Physics & Electronics with PCM, PME, PMS, PMCs, EMCs Combination and some add-on courses supplementary to the B.Sc students.
The curriculum of the department has been updated with major emphasis on the advances in the Physics & Electronics such as Fibre Optics, Astrophysics, Digital electronics, Computer Science, Microprocessor, Microcontroller, VLSI Designing and VHDL.
The department practices modern method of teaching and traditional method of teaching with the use of ICT. Students faculty undertake some small projects under the supervision of the senior faculty.
The department has separate well furnished, undergraduate laboratory with advance equipments necessary for under graduate course. A research laboratory with modern advance equipments meant for research. The basic infrastructural facilities are setup by the assistance of UGC- New-Delhi. The research laboratory has been recognized by KLE University , Belgaum for Ph.D programme.
The faculty members of the department are continually working on research problems. Their results are published and presented in National and International Scientific journals and at National and International Conference /Seminars.

Department of Microbiology
The Department of Biotechnology was established in the year – 2003 with sponsorship of K.L.E Society, Belgaum. Later in 2006 the Department of Microbiology joined the Department of Biotechnology, Realizing the importance of availability of trained man power in the area of biotechnology in this area.
The department aimed generating skilled manpower in different areas of biotechnology which would not only feed the biotechnology related industries but also would provide motivated persons required by other institutions.

About the Syllabus
The department has taken care in designing need based employable curriculum with inclusion of recent topics. In the curriculum even at the undergraduate level student has to undertake a project work over a period of two semesters with one of the faculty member as the supervisor. The department has formulated a programme called “Journal club” where in every student has to select the research article from the reputed research journal of their choice, each student has to present it before the students with the use of ICT, during which time the students are exposed to actual research. This helps them tremendously in building up their confidence and understanding of biotechnology and microbiology.
About P.G Course in Biotechnology
The department has started Postgraduate course in biotechnology in the year 2009 with an objective, to provide need based, employable education, The curriculum has been designed by giving more emphasis on interdisciplinary theoretical teaching, adequate hands on training, to create a real impact on the development of biotechnology in the country and abroad. This can help in providing better living conditions to people. It also aims in training the students in problem solving and to take up knowledge generating multidisciplinary projects.

The curriculum for postgraduate comprises the fastest growing areas in biotechnology like, recombinant DNA technology, microbial technology. Tissue culture technology, cell and molecular biology, pharmaceutical biotechnology, enzymology, immunotechnology and protein engineering. The curriculum includes project spread over all the semesters with recordable weightage.

System of three subjects of equal importance was introduced in the year 1990. Semester system was introduced in 2005. Autonomous status was given by UGC since 2007. It availed UGC BSR Grant during 2007 - 09.

Indian constitution, Human Rights and Environment Studies, Personality Development and Communication Skills, Computer Application shall be studied as compulsory subjects first, second, third and fourth semesters respectively.
Bachelor of Computer Application (BCA)
Pass in PUC-II Science and Commerce the minimum score should be 35%. Admission is made as per reservation policy of Govt. of Karnataka. JOCD students with maths or commerce or compo Sc. Engineering as one of the subjects with min 35% marks and above in JODC are eligible. The three year diploma students who have scored 35% marks are eligible for admission to B.C.A. with maths or compo Sc. Engineering subject. J.O.D.C. and Diploma students must produce eligibility certificate from Karnataka University before the admission to the B.C.A. Course.

Pollution prevention -- we will practice, promote, and provide leadership in ecological sustainability, including continuous improvement in pollution prevention as well as environmental and energy conservation and management. We will reorient our efforts to reduce and eliminate pollution at the source. Pollution prevention will be a priority in our various policies, programs, and practices.
Department of Computer Science was established in 1994. The CS Department has highly qualified faculty and has excellent hardware and software resources. Hundred percent eligible students are placed in high profile companies with good packages.
