Description

KIIT University (Kalinga Institute of Industrial Technology), Bhubaneswar , located in the eastern state of Orissa, is one of the youngest institutions to be awarded the deemed university status in India.[1] Now it is awarded the status of a University.

Established in 1992, this institution was the bulwark of Pradyumna Bal,Achyuta Samanta, Prasanta Mishra and Chitta Mishra, who had together envisioned a profound center of learning in India and so pursued to lay the foundation of KIIT. Within a very short span of time, this institution grew from an ITI training centre to a recognized technical educational institute with good infrastructure and academic curriculum.

Today KIIT is accredited institute catering to seven distinct streams. Each academic program is functioning in different independent campus.

Youngest Deemed University in India

KIIT has the distinction of becoming the youngest institute ever in the country to be declared a Deemed University by Ministry of Human Resources Development, Government of India.[2]

With its dynamic progress within a short span of time, KIIT is the youngest [3] institution in India to receive accreditation by National Board of Accreditation (NBA) of All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) and National Accreditation and Assessment Council (NAAC) of UGC for its Degree in Engineering, MCA and MBA programs. The process of accreditation takes into account the excellence of the institution in the field of infrastructure, academics, faculty and teaching imparted.

Qutopia is the quizzing society of KIIT-University. Established with the motto of ‘Quiz for Quiz's Sake’, the group claims to be a perfect haven for all the quizzers. Born out of a desire to learn more about the world and beyond, as well as an urge to share what we know, this group has its roots in the meetings that used to take place in the lawns of Block A of the Degree college - KITS, and was initially confined to a very small group; but now boasts of a rich community of both professional and rookie quizzers who meet every Saturday to feast on quizzing, currently, at the Student Activity Centre(SAC). This group is also maintained online through yahoo groups where the activity persists day in and day out.

‘Udghosh’ is the annual event of this society dedicated to the efforts of all the Ex-Kiitians who had setup the original quiz group of KIIT with the same name. The name 'Udghosh' was adopted for unanimous reasons of it having its roots in the Ancient Indian script of Sanskrit and also its apt meaning - that stands for 'the blowing of conch shell to declare the beginning of War'. Though this word was in much use in India during the prehistoric and medieval ages - due to the many conflicts that were so much a result of feud and hunger for territory - between various Kingdoms - to get more 'jewels' of territory and dignity in their 'crown' of Supremacy; the word ('Udghosh') itself was chosen for the Annual Quizzing event, for the simple reason that of its appeal and contextual meaning - that with the 'war' that goes on-stage - amongst the various dignified and feared teams, coming from all across, for the intention of basking in glory of being the Winners and walk away with the respect of their fellowmates, other challengers, the viewers and the newly 'Quiz converts'. Started on the auspicious day of Gandhi Jayanti - 2nd October, 2005 (Tribute to Late Mahatma Gandhi, his birth day being on this day), the first edition of ‘Udghosh’ was one of its kind in the Eastern region of India and arguably the first of its kind in the region of cultural and Mineral wealth of Orissa. Starting a trend and having a die hard fan following, ‘Udghosh’ has been able to stand apart and create a niche of its own in the Quizzing community, the size of which can only grow with each Annual edition of the event. The consecutive years have seen remarkable growth in the number of Sponsors for the event and the thus, the amount of Prize being awarded to the 'Warriors' who fight away with the coveted 'Crowns' - that are the only and ultimate desire of each team's contention. In fact the underlying theme of 'Qutopia' is :- Once a Quizzer, Always a Quizzer.
