Course in Freshwater Ecology and Conservation for the academic session 2024-26.

Seats

  • Twenty meritorious students will be admitted to this two-year residence course (four semesters).
  • The break-up of seats is:
    • General Candidates – 08;
    • OBC Candidates – 05;
    • SC Candidates – 03;
    • ST Candidate – 01;
    • Economically Weaker Sections (EWS) – 01;
  • Applications are open to only Indian nationals.

Eligibility Criteria

Candidates must meet the following criteria to apply:

  • Possession of a Bachelor’s degree in Life Science (with subjects like Botany, Zoology, Wildlife sciences, and Forestry) or related fields such as Veterinary Science, Agriculture, Biodiversity and Conservation Science, Sustainable Development, Biotechnology, and Environmental Science from a university recognized by the UGC.
  • A minimum of 15 years of formal education (10+2+3).
  • Attainment of a minimum qualifying score of 55 percent in aggregate marks or 6.0 CGPA/CPI for general and OBC candidates, and 50 percent or 5.0 CGPA/CPI for SC/ST candidates. Candidates awaiting results of their final bachelor’s degree examination may also apply.
  • Age limit:
    • Not exceeding 25 years as of March 30, 2024 (closing date of application), with a relaxation of 3 years for OBC candidates and 5 years for SC/ST candidates.
    • For in-service candidates employed in departments such as Forest, Water resource management, Pollution Control Board, Central Water Commission, Irrigation, or other water management institutions and allied government departments, the age limit is 40 years as of March 30, 2024 (closing date of application)

Application Process

  • The entire registration and NET process is conducted online.
  • Details regarding online registration and NET will be available on the Wildlife Institute of India’s website (https://wii.gov.in/) and the AcSIR website (https://acsir.res.in/) by January 30, 2024.
  • Online registration will commence on February 20, 2024, and will conclude on March 30, 2024.
  • All eligible candidates are advised to stay updated with the latest announcements on the WII and AcSIR websites regarding online registration, application submission, payment of application processing fee, etc.

Application Fees

  • For each general category candidate : Rs. 1500/-
  • For OBC non creamy layer, SC and ST category : Rs. 500/-
  • Mode of Payment : Through the prescribed “Payment Gateway”.

Selection Process

  • Eligible candidates must participate in an online National Eligibility Test (NET) conducted at one of 14 designated centers (Thiruvananthapuram, Chennai, Hyderabad, Bengaluru, Bhopal, Mumbai, Delhi, Lucknow, Dehradun, Ranchi, Kolkata, Guwahati, Aizawl, and Jammu) on May 12, 2024 (Sunday) at 10:00 AM.
  • Test center assignments will be determined by the institute based on candidate registration numbers, with candidates notified accordingly.
  • The NET comprises a 2-hour examination with 100 marks, featuring objective-type questions covering general aptitude, knowledge, language skills, mathematics, basic biology, ecology, and conservation issues (40 marks); Main subject Domain (40 marks); and a 300-word essay on environmental topics (20 marks).
  • Regular in-service candidates with five or more years of work experience are exempt from the NET.
  • Shortlisted candidates from the NET phase will proceed to a Personality and Aptitude Test (PAT) / interview at WII, Dehradun in May 2024.
  • Final selection for the course hinges on combined merit from the NET (50% marks) and PAT (50% marks). In the event of equal scores in both assessments, specific criteria will dictate admission decisions.
