International Institute for Population Sciences (IIPS), Mumbai invites applications for Ph.D in Population Studies for the year 2015.

Ph.D in Population Studies Admission is conducted by International Institute for Population Sciences (IIPS), Mumbai.

Applications are invited for admission to the full-time Ph.D. programme of the Institute with Government of India fellowship for the academic session 2014-2015. Applications are also invited from eligible UGC-JRF or any population fellowship holders for being considered for full-time admission.

Duration : (3 years full-time)

Fellowship:

The selected Indian students will be awarded a Government of India fellowship initially for one year only and is extendable on yearly basis as per rules of the Institute. Each eligible candidate with NET qualification for lectureship only either in Population Studies or its interdisciplinary subjects will be awarded the
=> Government of India fellowship @ Rs.16,000/- per month
=> First and second years and Rs.18,000/- per month
=> The third year respectively. Each fellowship carries a contingency grant of Rs.10,000/-
=> The first two years and Rs.20,500/- for the third year.
However, the candidates without NET qualification for lectureship shall be awarded the Government of India fellowship @ Rs.12,000/- p.m. for first and second years and Rs.14,000/-p.m. for third year respectively with an annual contingency grant of Rs.10,000/-.mikj

No. of GOI Fellowships:

Five (5 = 1 Gen, 2 SC & 2 ST). In addition, UGC-JRF and other fellowship holders will also be considered for admission as per availability of seats.

Ph.D in Population Studies Eligibility Criteria:

Interested candidates should fulfill following eligibility criteria:

=> Candidates having M.Phil in Population Studies or Master's degree in Population Studies or M.Sc. in Bio-Statistics and Epidemiology of a recognised university with at least 55% of aggregate marks in all subjects (all semesters/parts included).

=> The upper age limit is 30 years as on 30.6.2015.

=> Marks and age are relaxable for candidates belonging to reserved categories as per GOI rules.

=> Age for women candidates is relaxable by 5 years. Candidates awaiting results of qualifying examination latest by 30th September 2015 can also apply for consideration.

Selection Criteria:

Selection will be made on the basis of performance of the candidates in written test on research methodology and personal interview. The Institute gives preference to admit to its Ph.D. Programme, candidates who have M.Phil in Population Studies. Only short listed candidates will be called for the test and interview. The Institute shall not bear any travel expense of the candidates called for the presentation and interview.

Registration Criteria:

(i) All selected candidates without M.Phil in Population Studies are required to undergo compulsory course work for a minimum of 6 (six) months.
(ii) All selected candidates are required to stay in Mumbai as a full-time student for a minimum of 2 (two) years to continue his/her Ph.D. work, failing which registration shall be cancelled.

Prescribed application form and information can be obtained from the Assistant Registrar (Academic), International Institute for Population Sciences, Deonar, Mumbai-400 088 in person or by sending a self addressed Rs.50/- stamped envelope (25cm x 12cm) on or before 26
th June, 2015.

The completed application form along with necessary enclosures and a non-refundable processing fee of Rs.500/- (exempted for SC/ST and PH candidates) by Demand Draft, drawn from any nationalised Bank in favour of the Director, IIPS, Mumbai should reach the Assistant Registrar (Academic) on or before 30th June, 2015. All candidates MUST attach two reference letters from two referees other than relatives who are in a position to give information about them and their work. The processing fee may also be paid by cash at the cash counter and the cash receipt should be attached along with the completed application set.

The International Institute for Population Sciences (IIPS) serves as a regional Institute for Training and Research in Population Studies for the ESCAP region. It was established in Mumbai in July 1956, till July 1970 it was known as the Demographic Training and Research Centre (DTRC) and till 1985 it was known as the International Institute for Population Studies (IIPS).
