Department of Biotechnology

History

The Department of biotechnology was established in 2003

The 4 –year B.Tech industrial Biotechnology (IBT) under Anna university, Chennai, was started in 2003-2004 with an intake of 30 students/batch

The IBT programme was renamed by Anna University, Chennai as B.Tech Biotechnology(BT) from 2004 onwards

First batch of IBT graduated in 2007

Increase in intake from 30 to 60 was sanctioned in 2007- however, this was implemented only from the next academic year, since admissions had already taken place

Initiation of autonomous curriculum and syllabi in 2007-2008, affiliated to Anna University- Coimbatore

The 2 year M.Tech. Biotechnology programme was started in 2008-2009

Recognized by Anna University, Coimbatore, as a collaborative research center for the PhD programme in 2008

From 2005, many faculty members have been recognized as research supervisors of Anna university - Chennai and Anna university-Coimbatore

To facilitate students acquiring theoretical knowledge as well as practical skills needed for meeting the challenges in the field of Biotechnology.
