The need for Distance Learning.

Welcome to NIM, Nagpur

In today’s fast paced society, professionals having specialized skill are in high demand. Majority of the working class cannot afford to take a leave and join regular college to advance upon their Career Skills. Also, only a handful of employees actually get a paid leave for pursuing higher education or specialization courses. So what can you do to improve your educational needs and specialized skill requirements of today’s professional life? Today we will glance upon the Distance Learning opportunities in India.

A survey of 2500 participants found that a large majority of people distinctly showed a need and desire to benefit greatly from advancing their education. Since life prevents most people from becoming fulltime students, many turn to distance learning to further themselves.

Many institutions in India currently offer distance learning courses, and while quality will vary, advancing ones education can never hurt. Although, there are several different types of distance learning courses that both traditional and non-traditional students use to fit education into their hectic lifestyle like; E-Learning, Live TV/Video Virtual Class format and Correspondence, most widespread amongst these is the correspondence courses pattern of distance learning. The purpose of distance learning is to connect fast paced specialized courses and contents with the student/professional community.

Distance learning in India has caught on and is heavily used by non-traditional students who have day jobs and a busy lifestyle. Also, many MNC’s have come forward in accepting distance learning courses and encourage their personnel to enroll for such courses to develop upon their Specializations and Career aspirations. This aspect of correspondence courses goes well with MNC’s policy towards career advancement commitments of its employees. The HR of such companies recognize and welcome candidates with Distance Learning background, especially those who require specializations and advanced skills for a particular job opening in their organizations.

With the increasing availability of distance learning courses many people (who would not be able to do so otherwise) can attain or finish a degree or become Internationally Certified. With the need for acquiring new skills in the Fast Track mode, one can rest assure that Distance Learning in India will only grow exponentially.

Correspondence programs are sweeping the nation with more students enrolling each term. Before you sign up for distance learning courses, here are a few points you should consider:

1.) A better focus and concentration is a huge advantage of correspondence programs. Wasted time commuting and the distractions of listening to lectures amidst a group of shuffling people are gone. Correspondence courses can be studied when the time is right and when the student can sit down to fully direct his or her attention to the course material.
2.) Many times, students grouped in traditional classrooms are disinclined to raise their hand to either ask or answer a question. In a class full of fellow students, pressure to avoid humiliation is high. With correspondence programs, students are able to think through a question cautiously and can post the answer online to the distance learning school website or use the open book system, when they are ready to do so.
3.) With correspondence courses, there is no such thing as a 6 am class. There is no driving across town and having to beat the ticking clock to reach college on time. Distance learning programs give students the ease of learning at their own speed and at their own convenience. Students can study their distance learning course in the comfort of their own home.
4.) You’ll learn new things, from new authors and new books from all over the world.
5.) A degree/certificate on your resume may lead to a raise or a better job, not to mention raised esteem.
6.) You’ll have something interesting to say at cocktail parties, and make an impression!
7.) Your list of helpful contacts will grow. You’ll meet interesting people who share your passions, and life stories.
8.) Your mind will stay sharp and alert. You’ll gain the respect of your colleagues and co-workers. New books and experiences will come into your life; so will new virtual friends, who later become your real friends.
9.) You can do all of this while sitting at a computer in your pajamas, while eating popcorn, and drinking freshly brewed coffee.
10.) You don't have to battle the rain and traffic jam to get to your classes. Exams are mostly on Open Book international pattern.
11.) Choose to study anytime, anywhere - from home, or from the workplace, early in the morning, during a lunch break, late at night, or even from a hotel room during business travels. You can have your cake and eat it too!
12.) Learn something new everyday. Do your degree/certification no matter where you are in life.

Scope for improvement is constant in this dynamic and changing world. Gaining a specialization certification adds value and weight to your resume, especially if you are experienced and employed. Many Universities, Colleges, Institutions and Autonomous bodies are eligible today to impart distance education in India. The All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) and Universities Grants Commission (UGC) have a designated task to overview Technical Colleges and Universities. However, most of the Correspondence courses provided are from Institutes and Autonomous bodies, not covered under either. To maintain quality, these Institutes are ISO certified, and Accredited by Internationally approved accreditation bodies like DAS [Direct Accreditation Services] and UKAS [United Kingdome Accreditation Services] and thus qualify courses from these Institutes to be internationally accepted in over 140 countries, and with HR’s of all the MNC’s.

Sometimes, ‘time’ just runs out on people and it becomes impossible to turn the clock backwards; however, with correspondence courses, it is possible to gain cutting edge and hone your professional skills to push forth your stagnant or receding career.
