Indian aid to Pokhara school

The Embassy of India Tuesday has extended grant assistance of over Rs.77 million for the infrastructure development of Nepal Bharat Maitri Vidyalaya at Pokhara of Kaski district as a fourth educational project undertaken by the government of India.

The government of India and Nepal had signed an agreement on August 24, 2006 for setting up a higher secondary school affiliated to Central Board of Secondary Education of India to ensure quality consistency in education pattern for the children of Nepalese ex-servicemen on their return from India to Nepal. There are over 1,22,000 ex-servicemen in Nepal, the Embassy press statement said.

Pranay Verma, on behalf of Ambassador of India, Counselor (Economic Cooperation), Embassy of India laid the foundation stone of a new building in the complex of Pension Paying Office of Embassy of India at Pokhara.

Conveying the message from Ambassador of India, counselor Verma said that the new building of the school was a token of gratitude from the government of India for the invaluable services provided by the ex-servicemen.

He transferred the word of hope that the school would significantly contribute to the educational needs of their children as also of other Nepalese students.

He further reiterated India's commitment to extend all possible assistance to the people and government of Nepal in their endeavor to seek lasting peace and development. "Various health and educational projects being executed under India-Nepal Economic Cooperation Programme would make a significant contribution in the business,� he forwarded.

The government of India has appointed a consultant and would appoint a contractor for implementation of the project. A project monitoring committee will be constituted for monitoring the progress of construction to ensure its timely and effective implementation, the press statement said.

The government of India in Kaski district is currently implementing more than 265 large and small projects under the India-Nepal Economic Cooperation Programme in the sector of education, health, community development and infrastructure.
